Price of gambling

Gambling is such a thing that I never want to get involved in, even if I have some strategies and I am confident that I can make money by betting. In one of my recent posts, I discussed that there are no benefits we can get from it if we consider it long-term. Gambling is an addictive thing, and maintaining distance is the best thing I can do for myself because I fear that for a single action of one day, I may suffer my whole life.

As I said, I discussed about gambling and why people lose everything in the end in a recent post. Why today I am bringing up the topic again. On that day I shared the psychology behind gambling, but today I am here to share a real-life example that happened recently.

Today I went to one of my aunt's houses, who lives nearby where I can visit within 20 minutes. I have some tasks to do, which was the purpose of visiting there. My aunt can't do household work because of her sickness, and for that reason, she kept a maid to do household work who worked there for several years. The woman seems good and honest as much as I know.

She has a son who is about 22 years old, and he works in a factory. The earning him is very little, and his father is a rickshaw puller. The earnings of 3 people help to run their family, and the major contribution comes from the head of the family from rickshaw. Their life is struggling because of the increase of the inflation rate.

Her son is an offline gambler, and he used to gamble, especially based on live cricket match scores. In recent times, the BPL tournament was occurring, and he was good at predicting. Maximum time he owns from gambling, and I think it made him arrogant. But a few days ago he was unlucky, and he lost most of the bet. The surprising thing is that he placed a bet without having the cash fund. At the end of the match, he was in huge debt to the other party. When he failed to pay the debt, the other party didn't allow him to return home. Such a situation is very natural in my opinion.

The opponent party didn't allow him to come home without money. Later his father went there to rescue him. They sized the rickshaw for security reasons. The debt was so huge that it was paid by selling the rickshaw. It was a financial blow for them, and his father couldn't earn from that day, as the rickshaw was the source of earnings. So their family started to face the financial blow, and to make up for it, they are forced to borrow money from others, and it's not enough for now.

Right now they are planning to take a loan from an NGO as they are helpless. I can predict the future from here easily. They need to pay high interest for the loan, and if somehow they fail to repay the loan, they may face more trouble, and even they may lose their home also. I just hope that they can do well with the money that they will get from a loan.

I don't know how it will end up, but I can't expect the end to go well. On a single night, their suffering has increased. More importantly, can the child stay away from gambling? For a temporary time, it can be possible, but I don't think such a child can restrain themself from gambling in the long run.

I just hope we can learn lessons from the incident, and I think it's the destiny of most gamblers. So, be careful.
