The importance of animals in the ecosystem can't be quantified, and according to the creation story I read back then, they were here before humans, if I am not mistaken. Every animal plays a significant role in the ecosystem, and we can't take away their importance, whether they are wild, herbivores, or domestic. Before I realized that every animal had a role to play, I disliked vultures a lot because of their ugly looks and what they fed on.
Among all the things in the world, why would an animal decide to feed on animal carcasses? I haven't met a vulture and have always prayed not to because I have a memory that doesn't forget whatever it pictured easily. I found the bird disgusting until I learned that without vultures, there will be lots of animal carcasses lying around, and the foul smell from those carcasses will definitely inconvenience humans because the air will be polluted.
I did my research and realized that even the smallest of animals (insects) have great significance in the ecosystem, and without them, their responsibility will be left undone. Humans can't serve their purpose, and they can't as well serve ours, so we can't look down on any animal even though we are superior to them.
The birds have their purpose; the cattle and even the fish in the ocean have a significant contribution to the ecosystem other than us just feeding on them.
I love animals, and I am not sure there is anyone who doesn't love animals. If not for their beauty, behavior, or other things, humans will love animals because of how tasty they are.
We were chatting about our favorite animals at a gathering, and one guy said that crocodiles will always top the list of his favorite animals, and we were shocked. Like, why would someone choose an animal you can't keep around you as his favorite animal?
He shed more light on his choice, and it turned out to be that he only enjoyed eating grilled crocodiles, and that's all. So for many reasons, people have their favorite choice of animals.
My favorite animal would be a cat, because it's one of the animals I was very scared of growing up. A lot of people in Nigeria believe that cats are diabolical animals, and they say a lot of evil things, which made me scared of cats, but as I grew up, I realized that people only said those things about cats because of some superstitious belief. I was able to get close to cats a few times, and I saw the beautiful parts of them. They are soft and very energetic creatures, which made me feel in love with them.
I love dogs too, but I am still very scared of them because some are very scary. Their looks alone would make me run, but that doesn't make them bad. Just like humans, animals have different behaviors, and it's just natural.
We have a lot of things in common with animals, and our superior reasoning ability is the biggest difference that puts us aside.
