# DuceCrypto's S130 - Splinter Stats Ranked Rewards Season 43 Report Card

    @ducecrypto

Welcome to the new world of rating and Ranked Rewards in Splinterlands! I tried something different for this first season under the new rating system -- I only played manually in Modern and did not switch on the bot service in Wild. Although my $SPS earnings were down quite a bit, my enjoyment was up since I was much less upset about the big swings in rating when I would lose a battle. Let's get on to the data!

    Rating3870 - Champion III
    Rating High3950
    Ratio (Win/Loss)1.01 (220/218)
    Longest Streak9

If the new rating system intended to pair players more evenly against others with similar skills and collections, it would be a success. My record in battles was nearly an exact 50% win rate. I finished over this mark with 2 more wins than losses in 438 battles. Surprisingly, I couldn't even reach a 4000 rating for Champion 2!

I spent the entire season mostly range-bound between 3650 - 3850. The biggest cause for this is the removal of win streak bonuses in Champion League. Because of this change, my rating had no additional rating inflation throughout the season, and those couple big streaks I went on did not propel me to a higher rating.

The big takeaway from these new rating changes is that I need to improve my skills as a battlemage. I want to be better than a .500 player and this was a wake-up call to be more disciplined in my gaming sessions!

This was also the first full season with the new tournament structure. The SPS DAO removed entry fees from its events and all the pricing places that just returned the entry fee. The result was that I could more easily join more events and in turn, the amount of players in each event increased considerably!

Round 1 competition was not as difficult, but with the added participants, a much higher record was required to qualify for Round 2. Then in Round 2, the competition was fierce! Most events only paid to 32 places, so just 16 places.

This led to some pretty epic battles for Round 2. I really enjoyed these new changes to the competitive tournament scene in Splinterlands. I think @clayboyn and the DAO proposal system did great work with the community to create something easier to access and better use the DAO funds to support competitive play.

Surprisingly, my two best results came in Gold League tournaments, which I don't have much experience playing since I play ranked in Champion and brawl in Silver. My biggest tip for Gold League events would be to lean into those Riftwatcher Epic summoners to take advantage of the added abilities of Lvl 7 Rares like Moxian Rebel (2 magic attack) and Diemonshark (retaliate).

Next season, I'm enrolled in even more tournaments and will take more time away from playing Ranked battles manually. I'm hoping this will allow me to be more competitive in the tournaments and achieve better ranked rewards automating in Wild.

It's now been over a month since I completed my Regular Foil soulbound reward card set. All I'm looking for in cards are Gold Foils, and sadly for the entire season, I did not open up a single Legendary or Epic Gold Foil. In fact, out of the total 653 BCX I opened, only 42 were Gold Foil. I hope next season is better!

Overall, my total earned chests from focus and seasonal rewards decreased considerably from the previous S129. With the old rating system I earned 354 Champion chests, while in this past season with the new rating/pairing system, I earned just 271. This makes sense when you consider my win percentage was reduced and I did not have the bot battling for me in Wild.

Regardless of the changes though, I still earned quite a bit of value during S130. I got over 2800 potions and 20000 merits, the latter allowing me to open another 10 gladius cases. Sadly, no huge hits in any of my SPS chests, so I only earned a modest 710 SPS from ranked reward chests.

But the return of SPS from Ranked battles was quite impressive. From my 220 wins, most in Champion and a few in Diamond, I earned 2529 SPS. This works out to be right around 11.5 SPS per win. This is still a very respectable number and even considering yesterday's pullback in spot SPS price, it amounts to about 0.30 USD per win. All told that is still a great number for a fast-paced #play2earn Web3 strategy game.

As you can see, I did rent one card last season, a Max Gold Foil Corrupted Pegasus, for 3 days to help me get the CP needed to join the Gold Foil Wild Diamond tournament event (formerly The Wealthy Gambit). So far, it looks like this investment is paying of well since I was one of only 16 players to qualify for Round 2 of this extremely competitive and lucrative event.

On the whole, I am down around 2000 SPS earned compared to last season, but my enjoyment is way up. For people all about their ROI, the new ranked play may be a bit frustrating, but gladly I'm here for the competition and skill, not just the earnings.

However, this will make me reconsider my approach to ranked play, managing my energy, and the time I invest to play tournaments. As stated above, I will likely put much more of my daily time into playing tournament battles while allowing my Xbot to play ranked battles in Wild. It will be interesting to evaluate how these changes affect my enjoyment of daily play as well as my bottom line at the end of the season.

Thanks for checking out my Ranked Rewards report card for S130. I'm curious to hear what you think about the new ranked rewards system, so please let me know in the comments.

Good luck with your next season! May all your chests be gold!
