A visit to Chicó Park and Museum

    Hello, Hivers and Wednesday walkers!

For today's walk, I'm going to share a visit to a Park that houses a small museum in Bogotá, which is the Parque del Chicó. In which is located the Museo del Chicó also called Museo Mercedes Sierra de Pérez.

The park is located in the north of the city, in the neighborhood of the same name, El Chicó. It is a residential area, with apartment buildings and I also saw some embassy houses while walking around there.

The park looks very well-kept and seems to be a very safe place to unwind and enjoy nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

When I visited it was quite lonely, but it was a weekday. But I found it a perfect place to go with children.

There is a small pond where there are geese. And a few pigeons, who seemed to be trying to steal the food from the geese.

You can get very close to those geese and they stay very quiet. Although there are some warnings to keep a safe distance.

In those days of January, there was a lot of drought in Bogota and the weather was hot for what the city usually is. No rain and I already told you that there were even forest fires in the east hills of the city in Smoky days in Bogotá. From this park, you could see closely the helicopters that were trying to control the fires.

And despite the heat and the sun, a few people were enjoying lying on the grass.

The vegetation in the park must be beautiful in the rainy season. But even so, despite the drought, there were some gorgeous flowers like these purple ones.

And while I was there, I also visited the museum located in the park.

The museum is housed in an old colonial house.

The house, which dates from colonial times, was acquired at the beginning of the last century by a well-known landowner from the savannah of Bogotá, called Pepe Sierra. According to what I have read and what the girl who guards the museum told me. He inherited the house to his daughter Mercedes and she donated it to the state to turn it into a museum.

The museum exhibits antique decorative pieces. There is a room dedicated to glass objects.

One of the spaces that I liked the most was the dining room. Where the table is served with beautiful china.

You can visit one of the bathrooms of the house.

And also the personal living room of Mercedes Sierra.

As in all those old big houses could not miss the chapel.

The museum is small but it is a pleasant visit if you are in that area of the city.

The entrance fee is 7000 pesos and is the same for Colombians and foreigners. This was nice because the entrance fees to tourist sites are usually much higher for foreign visitors.

After visiting the museum, I walked a little more through the park areas surrounding the house.

That was the end of my visit that day. I left the place hungry, but what I ate, I will tell you another day ;)
