I was once that guy who was introduced to gambling by his friends when he was in secondary school. I gambled almost all the time and I could say for a fact that I lost more times than I ever won. There have even being times where I had so much money and immediately I put them into the betting site and just book some games I lose everything and was always filled with regret and pain. Even in the times where I won, I still somehow go again with the mindset of winning more money and I ended up losing everything all at once. The thing about gambling is that, it is actually very unpredictable and most times it takes consistent losing and even luck before you can finally win some money from it. So what's the essence of it all when at the end of the day you don't even gain anything??
Gambling has actually destroyed the lives of so many people and it has also helped some people. But then should it be made illegal?? I would say yes. There was this recent story in Nigeria. It was a story of a student who decided to use his school fees given to him by his parents to gamble and he lost the bet. Now, because he didn't how to pass the message to his parents, he decided to suicide and then he took his own life. This is someone who with alot of dreams and aspirations but because he decided to gamble, his life and all his dreams were cut short. Because of the fact that he chose to gamble, his parents had to live in pains. Now, should gambling still be made legal in our community! I don't think so.
Asides from that, i have alot of friends that when they bet and loose, they choose to go again the following day thinking that they would eventually get to win back their money and along the line they became addicted and end up losing all the money they were being given by their parents to take care of themselves in school . Since they are already broke they would now start borrowing money from friends and even online apps just so they could get money to feed themselves.
At the end of the day , gambling is mostly for those who are hoping to get rich overnight which i why i don't i think it's the right way for anyone to get rich. I believe success can only be achieved through hardwork . I wouldn’t say I am in the best place to judge those who gamble because, I have also being there before trying to get money to take care of myself . But then, I still think gambling should be made illegal because of it's vast negative impacts on the lives of the people. Instead of the government choosing to make it legal in our country they should literally just provide us with more high paying jobs and just provide us with a better economy in general so that many indivuduals can find better ways to survive and reach ends meet.
