Today I went to the Kyoto Botanical Garden for the first time in many years. I went to Kyoto Botanical Garden because it is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and I thought it was a happy occasion. According to the information I gathered beforehand, the "Early Spring Flower and Plant Exhibition 2024" and the "Orchid Exhibition" are currently being held, so I decided to go there to see all the flowers and get a lot of extracts from them.
However, even though it was a mild winter, it was still too cold to sketch outside, and sketching was already prohibited in the greenhouse, so I took a lot of pictures for the day.
The Botanical Garden opens at 9:00 a.m., but the above two events started at 10:00 a.m. So I went to the plum grove until the events started. So I was taking pictures of plum trees and flowers in the plum grove until they started. Plum trees smelled good. By the way, I heard that early-blooming plum trees are already in full bloom at plum viewing spots in Kyoto City.
After enjoying the plum blossoms and taking a break to have a cup of coffee at the coffee shop in the center of the park, I entered the "Early Spring Flower and Plant Exhibition 2024" venue.
At the "Early Spring Flowers and Plants 2024" exhibition, there were many kinds of flowers such as cyclamen, pansies, tulips, etc., which are commonly grown in the town in early spring. I was fascinated by the unusual colors and shapes of some of the varieties, which were different from the ones I often see, and took pictures of them.
However, the selection of flowers was a little too ordinary, and I would have liked to see more rare flowers that cannot be found in the city.

今日は何年ぶりでしょうか、京都府立植物園へ行きました。京都府立植物園は今年開園100周年ということで、めでたい、と思って行きました。事前に情報を集めたところによると「早春の草花展2024」と「洋ラン展」を開催中とのことで、もう花を見まくって花のエキスをいっぱいもらってこようと思って行きました。
とはいうものの、暖冬とは言え外でスケッチするにはまだ寒く、温室は既にスケッチ禁止になってしまったので、今日のところは写真を撮りまくりました。
植物園の開園時刻は午前9時なのですが、上記2つのイベントは午前10時からでした。ですから始まるまで梅林で梅の木や花を撮っていました。梅はいい香りがしました。ちなみに京都市内の梅の名所では、もう早咲きの梅が見頃となっているそうですね。
梅の花を楽しんで、園内中央にある喫茶店でコーヒーを飲んで一息ついてから、「早春の草花展2024」の会場に入りました。
「早春の草花展2024」には早春に町ででもよく栽培されているシクラメンやパンジー、チューリップなどたくさんの種類の花がありました。よく見かける品種とは違った変わった色や形をした園芸品種もあって、夢中になって写真を撮りました。
ただ、品ぞろえがちょっと普通過ぎるというか、もう少し街なかでは見られないような珍しい花も展示してほしかったです。

After entering the greenhouse and seeing the tropical plants, I went to the orchid exhibit. Many orchid lovers exhibited orchids that they had grown themselves. The exhibition was a bit crowded, but we enjoyed the beautiful shapes and fragrances of the orchids. Orchids were for sale and workshops using orchids were also held.
Here are some photos of some of the orchids on display at the show. It was truly a flower-filled day.

そして温室へ入ってひと通り熱帯の植物を見た後、洋ラン展へ行きました。たくさんのランの愛好家が自ら育てたランを展示していました。展示会場は少々混雑していましたが、ランの花の美しい形と、香りをゆっくり楽しみました。ランは即売もされており、またランの花を使ったワークショップも開催されていました。
洋ラン展に展示されていたランの中からいくつか写真を載せます。今日は本当に花づくしでした。
