“I don't care whose idea it was, and how long they had the idea, but if they bring themselves over here with the idea that Gracie and her family can't have what I have because they were born with a tan and I wasn't, I will break bad! We're not about to have any of this over here!”
A rather antiquated political pamphlet had slipped out of someone's grasp and had floated all the way to the cul-de-sac on which the Ludlows and Trents lived in Lofton County, VA. Little Miss Edwina Ludlow, eight years old, was having no nonsense with this blast from a less just past.
“Grandee Ludlow is on the rampage,” Col H.F. Lee said to his cousin, Edwina's grandfather Capt. R.E. Ludlow.”
“Doesn't she sound just like Hilda Lee, though?” Capt. Ludlow said. “Grandee Lee updated for the 21st century and as intolerant of racism as ever!”
“Yeah, if you were a bigot of any kind, Aunt Hilda wasn't having it,” Col. Lee said. “Better not bring that foolishness around her – she would light people up.”
“You kind of had to have your presentation of ideas worked out on all such subjects,” Capt. Ludlow said, “because she did not suffer fools gladly. Edwina doesn't either. Let me go get this offending pamphlet.”
“Well, I don't care if it it was from 1953! It should have been torn up or burned a long time ago!” Edwina said when her grandfather cam to get the pamphlet.
“I agree, and with that we know that we can instead put thus in the paper shredder to make something nice for Gracie and her family,” the captain said.
“You know what, Papa? That's a good idea, and it will serve them right!” Edwina said. “I really am trying to be building good instead of breaking bad, so I need ideas like that!”
