    Step 1: Gather the Ingredients

To make candied orange peel, you will need:

    • Oranges
    • Sugar
    • Orange food color
    • Lemon juice
    • Water
    Step 2: Prepare the Oranges

Start by washing the oranges thoroughly under cold running water to remove any dirt or residue from the peel.

Once you have peeled the oranges, use a spoon or a knife to scrape away any remaining pith from the inside of the peel.

After removing the pith, slice the orange peel into thin strips or any other way you like.

    Step 3: Blanch the Peel

To help soften the orange peel and remove any bitterness, sock the peels in cold water for 12-24 hours. Then blanch the strips in boiling water. Bring a pot of water to a boil, then add the orange peel strips and let them cook for about 5 minutes. Drain the peel and rinse it under cold water to stop the cooking process. Repeat the process 3 times.

Step 4: Make the Sugar Syrup

In a separate saucepan, combine equal parts water and granulated sugar to create a simple syrup. For every cup of water, add a cup of sugar.

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, add a few drops of orange color, and half a cup of lemon juice, and stir occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Step 5: Candying the Orange Peel

Once the sugar syrup is ready, add the blanched orange peel strips to the saucepan. Reduce the heat to low and let the peel simmer in the syrup for about 20 minutes.

Or until the peel becomes translucent and glossy. Stir the peel occasionally to ensure that it is evenly coated in the syrup.

    Step 6: Let it Cool

Allow the peel to cool completely before serving or storing.

For an extra touch of sweetness and texture, you can roll the cooled candied orange peel strips in granulated sugar.

I kept the orange candies with the syrup on because I will use them in different desserts later.
