Are you ready to dig deep?!
I am so excited for this! The addition of an Adventure Mode is a super fun addition that will be giving us the ability to do a bit of... well... adventuring! While most of Dwarf Fortress is an exercise in macro building and survival, the new mode will let us go micro and control a dwarf (or party of dwarves), and adventure within that world.
Some of the in-progress gameplay can be seen here:
It's going to be adding a lot of character-centred roleplay abilities to the game, which I think will be a lot of fun to explore. I love Dwarf Fortress, it's easily the most fun I've ever had while failing to survive (tied for that first-place podium spot with Project Zomboid), and being able to equip and use weapons, fight baddies, and just adventure around the world outside of my one little section is such a cool concept!
This runs primarily as a turn-based system, so you don't have to worry about how fast you can react which I like. Dwarf Fortress is brutal enough without real-time reactions being required.
It's not quick combat by any means, but just having the ability to spend even more time in even greater detail playing Dwarf Fortress is very cool. I think Adventure Mode might actually be a way for a lot of new players to jump into the game, as a lot of the concepts for this new mode are pretty standard to what you'd expect of a roguelike game.
The base experience does have a pretty steep learning curve (which is still super fun), but I'm willing to bet that this mode won't suffer the same learning curve and will be a little more accessible for folks.
So, if you've been curious about the game but felt put off by the idea of having to learn how it works... now might be a great time to jump on!
