Hey Everyone, I hope you are all fine and doing great. This post is my entry for the weekly featured content in the #Hivelearners community. Today's topic to write about is Self-Driving Cars
I believe that there is hardly anyone in today’s world who is not addicted to luxury and comfort, especially when we talk about people living in cities. Those of us who move from rural life to urban life initially work with great enthusiasm. However, as time passes, we tend to become lazy. This laziness is largely due to the luxuries we incorporate into our lives.
One of these luxuries is owning a luxury car. Nowadays, with the rapid changes happening and the emergence of new technologies, cars are becoming increasingly modern. We now have self-driving cars that not only provide us with more ease but, in my opinion, also make us lazier. These cars have completely transformed the way we travel.
I would also love to own a self-driving car if I get the chance. However, considering the area and city I live in, my decision seems more foolish than anything else. The traffic system here is so poor that accidents happen every day. No one follows traffic rules, which is really concerning.
People here tend to be jealous of each other. Let me share a personal experience. A few days ago, I went to a friend's house to offer my condolences for his father's passing. I parked my car completely to the side of the road. When I came back, I found a huge line of cars parked beside mine, and the paint on my car was completely damaged. The way the cars were lined up suggested that it was done intentionally. I have no idea who that person was, but because of their actions, the look of my car has been ruined.
Looking at all this, I think buying an expensive car while living in such a place doesn’t make much sense. Let me share another incident. My friend had a car equipped with some self-driving features, such as lane assist and a forward collision system. The issue with the car was that even if we turned off the forward collision system, it would automatically turn back on whenever we started the car again. One day, while we were driving, the car suddenly applied the brakes, causing a complete stop. We were startled and looked around, but there was no one nearby. When we looked ahead, we saw a person crossing the road quite far away. It was the forward collision feature that caused this reaction. Fortunately, there was no car behind us; otherwise, it could have resulted in a serious accident given how suddenly the car braked.
No matter how many self-driving cars there are, they will definitely have such functions. Given the kind of traffic we have here, I don’t think they would be effective. A self-driving car would apply the brakes only after a few seconds, which could lead to accidents like these.
