Greetings to all lovers of #wednesdaywalk, a space created by friend @tattoodjay, where every week we come together to appreciate different places around the world. Today I want to share with you my experience during a walk I took around Quinta de los Molinos, in downtown Havana. It was a pleasant surprise to discover a conservation project that completely captivated my heart.
Saludos a todos los amantes de #wednesdaywalk, un espacio creado por el amigo @tattoodjay, donde cada semana nos unimos para apreciar diferentes lugares alrededor del mundo. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi experiencia durante un paseo que realicé por la Quinta de los Molinos, en el centro de la Habana. Fue una grata sorpresa descubrir un proyecto de conservación que cautivó por completo mi corazón.
As I entered the grounds of the Quinta, I was delighted by the beauty of its natural surroundings. The lush vegetation created such a serene atmosphere that made me forget that we were in the middle of the city. However, something caught my attention, at the back of the beautiful gardens, I found some warehouses dedicated to the care of different species of plants, which functioned as a nursery. These spaces housed postures of different species, thus contributing to their reproduction and conservation.
Al entrar en los terrenos de la Quinta, me gustó mucho la belleza de su entorno natural. La exuberante vegetación creaba una atmósfera tan serena que me hizo olvidar que estábamos en medio de la ciudad. Sin embargo, algo llamó mi atención, al fondo de los hermosos jardines, encontré unas naves dedicadas al cuidado de diferentes especies de plantas, que funcionaban como vivero. Estos espacios albergaban posturas de distintas especies, contribuyendo así a su reproducción y conservación.
Although I could not walk much among the warehouses, as it is forbidden for the welfare of the species, I could appreciate with admiration the dedication with which they were cared for. It was inspiring to see how native plants were preserved and encouraged to grow in a controlled environment. This effort to conserve the plant diversity of the region is admirable and reflects Quinta de los Molinos' commitment to the preservation of our natural heritage.
Aunque no pude caminar mucho entre las naves, ya que está prohibido por el bienestar de las especies, pude apreciar con admiración la dedicación con la que eran cuidadas. Fue inspirador ver cómo se conservaban las plantas autóctonas y se fomentaba su crecimiento en un entorno controlado. Este esfuerzo por conservar la diversidad vegetal de la región es admirable y refleja el compromiso de Quinta de los Molinos con la preservación de nuestro patrimonio natural.
But what really excited me was discovering Cuba's first butterfly farm. This charming place is dedicated to preserving and reproducing butterflies in their natural habitat. It was a real privilege to have access to this place, I must say that it has many plants and is very well decorated and they explained to me that they keep statistics of the reproduction cycle of these insects that give beauty to our environment. However, capturing photographs was a challenge, as the butterflies are constantly moving, being a very poor result, although I appreciated them with my eyes when I clicked on the camera of my phone they became invisible. I know that more sophisticated devices are needed to capture them but I didn't want to stop showing you this beautiful space.
Pero lo que realmente me entusiasmó fue descubrir el primer mariposario de Cuba. Este encantador lugar se dedica a preservar y reproducir mariposas en su hábitat natural. Fue un verdadero privilegio tener acceso a este lugar, debo decir que tiene muchas plantas y está muy bien decorado y me explicaron que llevan estadísticas del ciclo de reproducción de estos insectos que dan belleza a nuestro entorno. Sin embargo, capturar fotografías fue todo un reto, ya que las mariposas están en constante movimiento, siendo un resultado muy pobre, aunque las apreciaba con mis ojos al hacer click en la cámara de mi teléfono se volvían invisibles. Sé que se necesitan dispositivos más sofisticados para capturarlas pero no quería dejar de mostraros este bello espacio.
I am very happy that this space dedicated to butterflies, considered the most beautiful and inspiring insects in existence, has been created. In Cuba, many species of butterflies are in danger of extinction due to the constant fumigations carried out in campaigns against the Aedes aegypti mosquito, because of the number of diseases and viruses they transmit. These delicate creatures have suffered significant damage as a result of these actions. Therefore, the existence of such a beautiful place dedicated to them in the Quinta de los Molinos is cause for great joy and hope.
Estoy muy feliz de que se haya creado este espacio dedicado a las mariposas, consideradas los insectos más bellos e inspiradores que existen. En Cuba, muchas especies de mariposas están en peligro de extinción debido a las constantes fumigaciones que se realizan en las campañas contra el mosquito Aedes aegypti, por la cantidad de enfermedades y virus que transmiten. Estas delicadas criaturas han sufrido importantes daños como consecuencia de estas acciones. Por ello, la existencia de un lugar tan hermoso dedicado a ellas en la Quinta de los Molinos es motivo de gran alegría y esperanza.
My visit to Quinta de los Molinos was a wonderful experience. It reminded me of the importance of caring for and preserving our natural surroundings, as well as the transformative power that conservation can have on our environment. I thank all those who work hard on this project, dedicating their time and effort to protect the diversity of plants and butterflies in our country.
Mi visita a la Quinta de los Molinos fue una experiencia maravillosa. Me recordó la importancia de cuidar y preservar nuestro entorno natural, así como el poder transformador que la conservación puede tener en nuestro medio ambiente. Doy las gracias a todos los que trabajan duro en este proyecto, dedicando su tiempo y esfuerzo a proteger la diversidad de plantas y mariposas de nuestro país.
