Puna’lu’o Beach
Today’s Wednesday walk took me to the black sand beach called Puna’lu’o in Hawaiian language.
- This Beach: Puna’lu’o was Formed by a lava flow from the volcano Mana Loa, the largest volcano in the world in land mass.
Mauna Kea is an active volcano with eruptions as recent as 2023!
- It is special to the native Hawaiians, who call themselves Kānaka 'Ōiwi (“native people” or literally “people of the ancestral bone”) or Kānaka Maoli (“real people”) or as part of the Lāhui (“Nation”)
- You can see the dark black lava entering the ocean.
- Kanaka Moli believe because black sand is a product of black lava, and a gift from one of the most important Hawaiian Deities: the Goddess Pele, who is believed to reside inside and control the volcanos.
- The beautiful vistas of the sun, sky, beach and ordinary cares of the world.
The sky and the ocean were a beautiful blue color
The color complements the sky and the black sand and clear water for rich black pools
This is one of my favorite places.
- So much ambiance here of red hot lava flows meeting the ocean with explosions of fire and steam as the lava hits the ocean.
