MY TAKE ON TATTOOS

in voilk •  last month

    So this topic has been on my mind ever since I saw it but it's just that I didn't have the time to answer it on the said day, please pardon me and accept my entry🙏😊

    I'd start by saying that Tattoos, body art, and body modifications are synonymous.

    Tattoo:- Tattoos are designs or patterns created by inserting ink, dyes, or pigments into the dermis layer of the skin.
    It is also an image made in the skin with ink and a needle. These practices can have various cultural social, personal, and aesthetic significances.

    Historically tattoos have been used by several cultures for decades for spiritual and religious purposes respectively.
    In our today's society, tattoos can be used to express personal identity, love for art, fashion, or commemoration of significant life events.
    Socially tattoos have been used by many, that is to say the population of people using tattoos are on the increase, at Least one tattoo could be seen in five out of ten persons in our society and people are beginning to accept it.
    Funny enough despite the increase in the use of tattoos on the body and the increasing acceptance, tattoos can still carry stigma in certain professional or conservative environments, especially a country as mine Nigeria, you wouldn't see a person with several tattoos working in the bank, teaching in the school, or even allowed on the pulpit to preach.
    If any of the people working in these places mentioned above has a tattoo or tattoos he or she is likely to keep it away from prying eye at the work place, because no one is ready to carry the stigma all around.

    Body Art:-

    Body art is any form of art made on, with, or consisting of the human body. It ranges from tattoos and piercings to more temporary forms like body painting. It is also the application of tattoos, piercings or jewellery to the body.

    Body art could be divided into two namely;

    Temporary Art which includes body painting and makeup, which are definitely non-permanent forms of body art which are often used for festivals, or personal expression.

    Secondly;
    Permanent Art:-
    As the name implies it doesn't go away, it is intended to last for a life time.

    Body Modification

    Imageref

    Body modification is the deliberate alteration of the physical appearance of human anatomy. It could be for cultural, spiritual, aesthetic, or medical reasons.

    Types of Body modification

    Stretched Piercings:-This is the Gradual enlargement of an already pierced hole, example the earlobes.

    Implants:- This could be Subdermal or transdermal implants. In implant objects are placed under the skin for symbolic or decorative purposes.

    Piercing:- This is the Creating of openings in the body to insert jewelries. Parts of the body that this could be done are ears, nose, eyebrows, lips, and navel.

    Many cultures have an history of body modification practices and they hold it dear to their heart. In other to express their individuality, individuals may choose body modification to express personal style. Even at that infections are prone to people who do body modifications.

    In conclusion tattoos, body art and body modifications are practices with deep historical roots together with significant cultural, personal and aesthetic meanings.
    Although there is increase in acceptance of these three but the stigma that comes with it in some cases is something one might not be able to live with. So before you do any of the three be ready to bear the consequences whether the stigma that comes with it or the health challenges that comes with it, you choose.
    Personally I wouldn't advise anyone to go for any but we all have our life's to live right?
