Following with the Balearic Islands at twilight, here is a good instance of the churches of the villages of the island's interior. The church of Santa María de Rubines in Binissalem, is a curious case of the Mallorcan baroque style mixed with the impressive bell tower built in neo-Gothic style, added to the main building in the 19th century.
The rest of the village has a number of historic buildings such as the old baroque stately mansions, which have in common that they were built with stone from local quarries, like the church, here called piedra viva (living stone).
One of these palaces is Can Gelabert, a provincially listed building that currently serves as a cultural centre of reference in the Balearic Islands.
In the surrounding area we find the tiny and charming neighbourhood of Biniagual, which has been perfectly preserved and has remained intact for three centuries.
