Yay, our first winter rain has arrived.

The dams have dropped to low levels during summer, and no rain since October.

What a sight for sore eyes, and this even beats a sunset, as water is life.

South Africa is a water scarce country that is plagued by droughts, and down here at the extreme southern tip of the African continent, water is at times a scarce commodity. I am sure that everyone in the Western Cape Province will be very happy to see the arrival of the rain. Note that flood warnings have been issued in certain areas, and we hope that no destructions will result. The great thing is that a contractor has been working on our river here since last year, and they are doing some wonderful work to prevent the river from flooding again. So, let's see what happens when the real rains arrive this season.

It will be the first rain experience of the youngsters that were born in the spring season.

And yes, no one has taught them, but they instinctively know how to keep warm. This little one was a bit wet.

Choppers don't mind the rain, as long as gale force winds are not around. And the winds were thankfully gentle.

The dove drew its neck into its feathered coat to keep itself warm in the rain.

I think that this wet feather belongs to the dove, and the dove will collect it after the rain spell :)

So yes, you can see that we were happy, as just two days ago, the temperatures were in the 30Cs, and now it was in the 20s. So, the heat was broken by the rain, and soon during May winter will arrive. A strange thing weatherwise, is that winter has started to arrive earlier than before and even weirder is that in the last weeks of winter, the trees start to blossom early, thinking that it's the spring season. Confusion reigns.

Can trees think? I don't know, but I do know that trees can sleep. The apple farmers pray for cold winters, as then the apple trees will awake in spring to grow top class fruits. I think that the trees just respond naturally to the conditions. Nature holds many secrets, and it will take a lifetime to discern most of nature's tricks. Best that we don't know all of them, as then we will be certain to try and corrupt them :D
    Such is life.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
