Hoy caminaba junto a zullyscott por el centro de Barquisimeto, haciendo un par de diligencias y notamos que frente a la plaza Bolívar se estaba realizando un evento sobre el Carnaval, así que habían muchos niños, jóvenes y adultos con disfraces de todo tipo y luego de acercarnos, y tomar unas fotos comenzamos a conversar sobre todo lo que implica el carnaval y quizá intentamos hacer una especie de aproximación a lo que puede considerarse un desentrañar la transculturización a través del sentido de la fiesta.
Considero que más allá de la alegría y el desenfreno el Carnaval es como un escenario de la transculturización, ya que ha atravesado siglos tras siglos permaneciendo de un modo u otro en la cultura. Hoy en día pensar en carnaval básicamente es pensar en esa explosión de colores, música y disfraces, se configura como un microcosmos donde la transculturización se manifiesta de forma exuberante que más allá de una simple fiesta, el Carnaval se presenta como un espacio de reflexión crítica sobre la dinámica intercultural en un mundo cada vez más globalizado.
Los orígenes del Carnaval se remontan a rituales ancestrales que celebraban la fertilidad, la primavera y la renovación del ciclo natural en el antiguo mundo romano, o quizá tengan un origen anterior, pero, es algo que desconozco. Sé que con el tiempo, estas tradiciones se fusionaron con las fiestas cristianas de Cuaresma, creando un espacio de permisividad antes del período de ayuno. Cuando el Cristianismo se impuso como religión muchas fiestas "paganas" pasaron a ser parte del mundo cristiano de otro modo, en pocas palabras el cristianismo bautizó las fiestas y la cultura en general. Esta amalgama de tradiciones dio lugar a una fiesta sincrética donde diversas culturas se mezclan y se reinterpretan constantemente.

El disfraz es el elemento central del Carnaval, se convierte en una especie de lienzo donde se plasma la esencia de la transculturización. Detrás de las máscaras y los atuendos se esconde la adopción y reinterpretación de los elementos culturales de diversos orígenes. Es como una especie de romper las barreras de las nociones de cualquier "pureza" de la cultura, aunque en sentido estricto no hay culturas puras o elemento únicos en una cultura. Invitándonos a cuestionar y reflexionar sobre la construcción de identidad cultural, siendo el carnaval una total dilución de las fronteras culturales.
Por otro lado el carnaval se implanta como un caleidoscopio, que refleja la compleja dinámica de la transculturización. En esta dinámica podemos vislumbrar y reflexionar el fenómeno desde varios elementos:
La Identidad cultural:
¿Cómo se construye la identidad en un contexto donde las culturas se mezclan y se superponen? ¿Realmente es posible la construcción de una identidad o es mejor hablar de identidades?
Apropiación cultural:
¿Hay realmente apropiación cultural en un contexto donde las culturas influyen unas sobre otras?
Interculturalidad:
¿Es realmente posible y de qué manera el Carnaval podría contribuir a la construcción de una sociedad más intercultural y tolerante?
Estas son las preguntas que vienen a mi mente, pero seguro hay más preguntas que podemos hacernos, por ejemplo, cuando nos acercamos al evento que les mencioné estaban cantando calipso, y aunque sea un ritmo venezolano no es de esta zona del país.
Creo que el carnaval nos invita a reflexionar sobre la naturaleza de la cultura en un mundo globalizado. Es un espacio donde se confrontan las nociones tradicionales de identidad y se exploran nuevas formas de ser y estar en el mundo. En este espíritu festivo propio del carnaval, podemos interpretarlo como una constante invitación a celebrar la diversidad cultural, y a reflexionar sobre la dinámica entre culturas, y brindar nuevos horizontes en el fenómeno de construcción de identidad.

El carnaval es más que una fiesta, es un caleidoscopio de identidades que nos invita a desentrañar la complejidad de la transculturización y a construir un mundo donde las culturas se mezclan, se enriquecen mutuamente y coexisten en armonía, es un mensaje poderoso frente a los conflictos que hay en el mundo por cuestiones de tradición.

I believe that carnival invites us to reflect on the nature of culture in a globalized world. It is a space where traditional notions of identity are confronted and new ways of being and being in the world are explored.
