After all my flights so far have been delayed on this trip, this one turned out NOT to be an exception and was the longest delay so far but there was a reason for it.
Picture I took at Denpasar Airport in Bali, our Scoot flight had the Pokemon livery, looked friendly and cool.
Volcanic eruption on the Island of Flores
The eruptions started around the 4th of November, multiples ones occurred and I was glad it wasn't close to Bali at first but didn't realize that it would actually impact air travel even 10 days later. I started doing research on the last day when I got to the hotel closer to the airport. I got an email to say that my flight got reschedule 4 hours later from Scoot.
I was suppose to fly on TR 281 at 10:55 but we left closer to 3 pm.
The good thing is that I got the word before end which mean I could organize a bit, I was planning to do an early checkout and leave the hotel around 8am in order to walk to the Airport to do the check in 3 hours before. I would miss out on the free breakfast as they started a bit later.
Turned out I could eat the breakfast and actually stay in my room until the checkout time at 12pm, I even enquired if they had rooms for an extra night as I wasn't sure if the flight was actually going to run or not.
At this moment I did research and saw that the situations over the lasts few days was serious and a lot of airlines canceled their flights, especially from Australian airport. They couldn't get the plane into Bali so did risk it and left the planes in Australian so many Australian got stuck for a bit on the islands.
I got lucky since Singapore is closer, sending a plane last minute would still be possible so they would fly if conditions got better. When I woke up on the morning of my flight I checked the inbound flight, it was a go so unless they couldn't land I knew 80% to I would get the outbound flight as the plane was physically coming.
The flight: DPS->SIN Premium seats.
Scoot is the low cost carrier of Singapore Airline, I did book my ticket in advance and got a good deal for it, it was about double the price of the standard economy and as I need check in luggage and a meal it was really worth it to upgrade.
The product is probably similar to a premium economy product rather than a business class product. You do get to seat in front of the plane but no airport lounge in Bali.
For this 3 hours flight you don't get inflight entertainment system and you have to rely on yourself. The seats themselves are very comfortable, you get a lot of leg room and leg support.
I could actually see myself doing a longer 10 hours flight with them in those seats no problem, the hard product is pretty good, Not lie flat beds but good enough to sleep for me.
You get a tiny bid of free Wifi as well which I used for WhatApps and maybe a thread/upvotes on inleo, don't really remember.
You also get a meal in the ticket which is not a given, in economy you have to pay extra as with most low cost nowadays. I pre selected the meal months ago, you would probably be better off just choosing on the spot unless you have want a specific meal for sure.
You can notice the Pokemon do follow us inside the plane.
Didn't post a picture of my face for a while on Hive but if you care to see, there you go me seating by myself on a Premium Seat inside Scoot airline.
On this Boeing 787 Dreamliner the seats are in 2-3-2 configuration and I was the only one on my side with another guy at the other end and nobody in the middle.
You might have noticed the scratch on my leg, well maybe a story for another time but is was from a nice experience :)
Later arrival at Singapore Changi Airport
I started planning a bit more my trip to Singapore 5 days to a week before flying there and my first stop was going to be the Jewel, I bought my ticket before for the day of my arrival, I was planing of leaving them my backpack for a few hours while I visited it before going to my hostel for check in. I had book the bridge as well but I had to be there before a set time because it was privatized for an event opening but according to my calculation I would have time to visit if I started by it and visited the rest of the Jewel after than heading for the city.
With the delay I got there closer to 6pm, immigration was fast as I qualified for the automated gates, I had to wait a little bit for luggage but not long compare to other Airports Changi is very efficient, the only reason I even noticed the time is because I walked out of the plane and passed immigration in like 10mins total (most of it is walk time to arrival). So you can't expect them to get everyones luggage out by that time.
Ride in the city was uneventful, happy to be in, I dropped my bag and went for a quick dinner before early bed time, lot to do the next day.
Conclusion
Singapore was always on top of my list as a destination to visit and I was very exited to finally be there and visit the city. Singapore has a worldwide reputation of being an enjoyable city to live and visit as well as being super open to business and capital investment. It is one of the strongest financial places in the world. They became a model city for a lot of its neighbors.
Bonus tip: If flying out of Singapore Airport, some airlines do offer super early check-in and bagage drop at the Jewel, even 12-18 hours before which is pretty crazy, this will allow you time to visit the city more or the Jewel itself
