Uno de los problemas a los que se enfrentan la mayoría de los emprendedores es cuándo arrancar su negocio. El asunto en realidad no es tan fácil porque se trata, entre otras cosas, de determinar cuál sería el momento más oportuno para iniciar, el que nos daría mayores ventajas.
Son muchos los aspectos que se deberían tomar en cuenta antes de dar este paso definitivo, después de todo, no son pocas cosas las que están en juego cuando decidimos lanzarnos al ruedo, están nuestros sueños, nuestro tiempo, y a veces hasta deudas que comprometen seriamente el patrimonio personal o familiar.
Un asunto como este no debería tomarse a la ligera, sin embargo, he conocido muchos casos de gente que obvia cualquier paso previo y decide lanzarse al vacío sin red de seguridad.
A este grupo pertenecen los que están convencidos que basta con la ilusión y el deseo para echar adelante un emprendimiento. Están cegados por la ingenuidad. Cuando hablas con ellos y les preguntas si han considerado algunas variables, responden que tienen lo principal, las ganas de salir adelante y que sobre el camino se enderezan las cargas. Esta es una actitud meritoria, sin duda, pero lamentablemente insuficiente, y que puede traer resultados muy malos en los emprendimientos.
Pero también hay otro grupo que de algún modo se ubica en el extremo opuesto. Tienen ideas brillantes pero no se atreven a ponerlas en práctica hasta considerar la última de las variables. Son reos de la extrema seguridad.
Aquí también hay una falla porque por mucho que nos empeñemos nunca podremos evitar la presencia del riesgo. Al igual que ocurre en la vida el riesgo va a estar presente en cualquier emprendimiento. La seguridad de que todo va ir bien es una quimera.
Así que si pretendemos agotar todas las variables hasta convencernos de que no hay margen de error, corremos el riesgo de nunca dar el paso que permita concretar la idea, y tendremos que cargar con la incertidumbre de no saber si por exceso de previsión perdimos una gran oportunidad.
A este último grupo de seres ultra previsivos pertenece mi amigo Luis, un hombre muy trabajador e inquieto, con una gran creatividad. Sus talentos son variados y a primera vista pareciera que tiene todo lo necesario para ser un gran emprendedor.
Cada vez que hablo con él siempre me comenta de alguna nueva idea que le anda rondando por la cabeza, la posible semilla de un emprendimiento. A esas ideas emergentes le dedica bastante tiempo, las mira desde todos los ángulos posibles hasta convencerse de la factibilidad de sus proyectos imaginarios. Pero sus consideraciones se han convertido en un exceso, y Luis está entrampado por el temor a no tomar en cuenta todas las variables, piensa que siempre le está quedando por fuera algo importante.
Esa actitud no solo lo ha mantenido paralizado durante mucho tiempo sino que le ha impedido concretar alguna de sus brillantes ideas.
Entre tanto pasa sus días como vendedor ambulante, una actividad que si la miramos bien también es un tipo de emprendimiento. Con eso se siente un poco más cómodo y seguro pero no satisfecho, porque él mismo sabe que tiene el potencial para cosas más grandes…
Ninguno de los dos extremos son convenientes, ni lanzarnos a una aventura a ciegas, ni tampoco convertir la evaluación de las condiciones en un camino sin fin. Lo ideal es encontrar un punto medio.
Hay cuestiones básicas que debemos considerar antes de dar el paso definitivo, asuntos como estudios de mercado, financiamiento, locales adecuados, proveedores y equipo de trabajo son indispensables para avanzar con buen pie. Si hemos revisado esas cuestiones y nos sentimos satisfechos quizá sea el momento de arrancar nuestro emprendimiento…

To this group belong those who are convinced that illusion and desire are enough to launch an enterprise. They are blinded by naivety. When you talk to them and ask them if they have considered some variables, they answer that they have the main thing, the desire to go ahead and that on the way they straighten the burdens. This is a praiseworthy attitude, no doubt, but unfortunately insufficient, and it can bring very bad results in the undertakings.
But there is also another group that is somehow at the opposite extreme. They have brilliant ideas but do not dare to put them into practice until they consider the last of the variables. They are prisoners of extreme security.
Here again there is a flaw because no matter how hard we try we will never be able to avoid the presence of risk. Just as in life, risk will be present in any undertaking. The certainty that everything will go well is a chimera.
So if we try to exhaust all the variables until we are convinced that there is no margin for error, we run the risk of never taking the step that will allow us to materialize the idea, and we will have to carry the uncertainty of not knowing if we missed a great opportunity due to an excess of foresight.
To this last group of ultra-predictive beings belongs my friend Luis, a very hard-working and restless man, with great creativity. His talents are varied and at first glance it seems that he has everything it takes to be a great entrepreneur.
Every time I talk to him he always tells me about some new idea that he has in his head, the possible seed of a new venture. He devotes a lot of time to these emerging ideas, looking at them from every possible angle until he is convinced of the feasibility of his imaginary projects. But his considerations have become an excess, and Luis is trapped by the fear of not taking into account all the variables, he thinks he is always leaving out something important.
That attitude has not only kept him paralyzed for a long time but has prevented him from realizing any of his brilliant ideas.
In the meantime, he spends his days as a street vendor, an activity that, if we look at it closely, is also a type of entrepreneurship. With that he feels a little more comfortable and secure but not satisfied, because he himself knows that he has the potential for greater things...
Neither of the two extremes are convenient, neither launching into a blind adventure, nor turning the evaluation of the conditions into an endless road. The ideal is to find a middle ground.
There are basic issues that we must consider before taking the final step, issues such as market studies, financing, adequate premises, suppliers and work team are essential to move forward on the right foot. If we have reviewed these issues and we feel satisfied, maybe it's time to start our venture...
