Glorified adventure-like war with toned down violence, no gore, and very few horrors.
Enemies fight honourably with mutual respect, e.g. not pursuing retreating enemy because they've respected the dead, etc.
Invincible tank, wise commander, brave girls-soldiers. Sounds like fun, right? Indeed story progresses without tragedies for so long that viewer's feelings are crushed when late in the show one important character suddenly dies to maximise dramatic effect.
Story gets worse as it goes and near the end a supernatural weapon is introduced, so extraordinary powerful that it sealed the outcome of war through brute force.
Show is entertaining enough, especially in the beginning due to interesting leadership. Commander declared that his first priority is preservation of lives of his crew and we see that priority enacted in various challenging situations. A hint of racism towards identifiable people associated with previous war adds complexity to the story.
What flying pig have to do with any of that we will never know...
