Hi, I'm Paul, an aspiring graphic designer and illustrator.
Being a student is tough, especially with so much schoolwork. Between deadlines, exams, and long readings, it feels like there's no time to relax. But the hardest part? Working on a thesis. The stress, the revisions, and the late nights can be overwhelming.
One of the scene I've created for my thesis. This is currently what I'm feeling these past few weeks. Even with all the chaos, I found a little free time. Instead of resting (which I probably should have), I decided to do something I enjoy which is creating fan art.
It felt great to take a break from academic writing and enjoy something creative. Even just for a short time, it was a nice reminder that hobbies and passions matter too. Balancing school and personal interests is hard, but small moments like these make it worthwhile.
MY ART REFERENCE
As an artist, I’ve always been fascinated by the world of Splinterlands, where every character has a unique story. Janni Rebel stood out to me with her mix of mystery and strength.

Based on its lore, Janni Rebel is a life djinn from the Plane of Life, deeply connected to balance and peace. In this artwork, I wanted to show her as a warrior who fights to protect that balance. With the Chaos Empire threatening her world, she has left her home in the Frigid Coasts and Northwest Lowlands to join the Riftwatchers.

Her long, flowing black hair frames her face, adding to her mysterious beauty. The markings on her face adds a unique and sophisticated ambiance based on what I imagined.

One of my favorite when I was making the artwork was her golden accessories. Her large hoop earrings and bangles add to her regal yet wild nature. The most striking element is her golden, horn-like crown, which symbolizes both her role as a protector and her rebellious spirit. It rests gently on her head, representing the balance she fights to keep in a world filled with chaos.
Her deep green hood contrasts beautifully with the golden details, symbolizing her inner strength. The background shifts from dark blue to a soft gradient, showing the uncertainty of war but also the hope she holds onto.
Some small details such as her clothing folds, the soft highlights in her eyes, and the way her fingers delicately hold a strand of her braid added a touch to her elegance while keeping her strength intact. Every stroke and shadow was carefully placed to show Janni Rebel as I imagined her which is a warrior fighting not for power, but for balance.
Through this piece, I wanted to show my admiration for her and bring her to life in a way that speaks to fellow Splinterlands fans. Seeing her take shape as well as my other artworks on my canvas was an amazing journey, and I hope this artwork inspires others as much as the other artworks has inspired me to continue in creating things.
