"A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person." -Mignon McLaughlin

When you finally found your "one," hold on to it and cherish it. 7 years ago, on the 23rd of December, we tied our knot and pledged our commitment in front of the altar. The feeling seemed like yesterday. I remembered the challenges that we've been through just to make it happen. I prepared everything for her. From her wedding gown, shoes, make-up and hairdo, and even the accessories. I wanted her to be surprised and feel like the most valued person that day.

We normally celebrate our anniversary as we eat together with our kids at home. For the past years, I cooked foods and shared them with our neighbors as a way of thanking God for all the blessings He has given to us in our married life. But this year, we decided to celebrate it with the four of us at home. We attended the Misa de Gallo at 4 am at the San Isidro Labrador Parish in our town. We also went to Bogo City and bought a cake for us. After buying the cake, we went to the market to purchase ingredients for me to cook the favorite pancit of our kids.

When we arrived home, my wife prepared the ingredients since I only wanted to cook and not with the cutting of ingredients and others. When she was done, I started cooking the pancit, and Jehoia was so excited about it. They usually get happy seeing me cook their favorites. They are used to eating foods prepared at home and seldom eat foods from the restaurant. When I'm almost finished cooking, Michael Joseph, our working scholar, asked to go out to visit his friends at my co-teacher's house. I told him to go back to get some food to share with Abegail and Aiko.

When the food was cooked, my son, Ioseph, prepared the table for our dinner. My wife also placed the cake on the table, and our kids were asking whose birthday we were celebrating. We then discussed with them the celebration, and they were still confused about why we were celebrating a wedding anniversary. Michael Joseph and Abegail arrived and grabbed some food and went back to my co-teacher's house, where Aiko was waiting. We ate the cake, and of course, Ioseph and Jehoia were full of happiness tasting the chocolate cake.

It was indeed a very simple celebration yet full of love and affection. Having our kids happy and healthy is the most important gift we ever received. I want our kids to know how to value presence to make it the best present to give to someone. One day, I hope they will become more loving and understanding so that they will help each other in times of crisis.

I would like to share here some shots taken during our wedding 7 years ago. These pictures were taken by Kuya Dennis, our official photographer, the son of my grandmother's best friend.
