Testing a swing 100 meters above the ground - The ADAM Lookout Tower in Amsterdam.

A few days ago I went to the city of Amsterdam and I was going to the ADAM Lookout Tower together with my family. The lookout tower is approximately 95 meters up in the air, and I am really afraid of heights, so not really my thing. But at the same time, I always feel attracted to heights, and I love enjoying a good view. In other words, I had mixed feelings about the entire thing.

We ate some food in the restaurant at the 20th floor, and then we went to the observatory deck. Before we arrived, I knew that there was a swing at the top of the observatory deck, actually the highest located swing in all of Europe. THere you can sit, 100 meters above the ground in a swing taking you back and forth above the edge of the building.

My wife really wanted to test the swing...

Before we arrived, I knew that my wife really wanted to try the swing... I did not. But, I also knew that a common memory like this is able to bring joy and happiness to a marriage, so I knew that I would go along if my wife really wanted to test the swing.

Then my sister-in-law suddenly said that she wanted to do the swing, and I was so happy, because that meant that she would do it together with my wife (instead of me)... Wow, what a relief!

But, then suddenly my mother-in-law showed up and said that she wanted to do it as well, meaning that she would test the swing with my sister-in-law, and my wife once again lacked a partner for the ride. In other words, I had no other choice than to conquer my fear and get on the swing.

I was quite terrified as I really dislike heights, especially if I feel like I am not very tightly secured. Of course the ride is safe, but I still felt quite terrified getting on the swing, and throughout the one minute ride, that didn't really slow down.

Looking downwards was terrifying, but looking outwards and towards the rest of the city of Amsterdam was way more relaxing and made it easier to digest what I was actually going through.

After one minute the ride came to an end, and I was very happy to have survived, and also to have conquered my fear. And even more important, it is a memory I will have with my wife that we will remember for as long as we are alive.

Is the swing in Adam Tower worth it?

I would definitely say yes. It is fun, it is wild, and it gives you a fantastic view of Amsterdam, while boosting your adrenaline levels. It might look harmless, but once you sit there, it is actually quite a scary ride!

Have you tried it? Would you try it if you visited the tower?
