The bond between fathers and their baby girl is powerful and often much stronger than the affection between them and their sons. this does not mean they don't love their sons, it is just the emotional level that is different, they believe that their daughters are fragile and need to be protected and showered love to keep them safe.
I am not a father but I have stayed with my sisters, one had two boys and the other had two girls, the time I spent living with them made me realize some things about both genders.
Girls are brought up to show love, they don't hold back the way they feel, whenever I go out, the return is always epic because my nieces were always waiting to run and hug me on my return, that gesture alone made me want to have a daughter as my firstborn.
Boys were not raised that way, they were raised to be manly and this is why in most families, the father and daughter bond is always strong and mother to son is always strong too.

Fathers do not believe their boyfriend can ever love their daughter the way they loved her, they don't trust them and they won't like to see the girl they have been pampering and taking good care of be maltreated by someone else, so they might not like the boyfriend until he earns their trust and shows them he is also capable of giving their princess a queen treatment.
Most fathers do not care if their daughters divorce and come back home to start living with them, they would rather she stay with them than let her face any hardship somewhere else.
Their love is not about possession though, the moment they notice their daughter is more happy with the guy and she is being treated well, that is when they start to like the boy too because they realize he is capable of making their daughter happy and trust me, that is what most loving father wants from their daughter's boyfriend.
