This is my post for #freewriters 2309 prompt go practice hosted by @mariannewest
I fished 3 days in September and 1 day in November and have not been back.
I am used to coming home from fishing in pain but the pain has been getting worse, the last time I fished, I came home in tears from my back and my hand hurting. I did not go to the fish house to weigh up. I went home and laid on the heating pad until the pain eased enough to drive to the fish house.
When I fish pompano I use six rods and I run from one end of the boat to the other checking baits, and when a fish gets on one, I go in a circle around the boat, having to go over or under the other lines, lifting the other rods out of the way, it is a lot on my back.
this is a tarpon I hooked
I am thinking I will try to trout fish, I only use one pole for catching trout. I might need to go practice with it before putting all of the crab traps and pigfish traps in the river.
If I can not trout fish, it would mean my 40 year fishing career is over unless I can find something else to do on the river, but I do not know what that would be with the shape the river is in.
If I can not fish with a pole, maybe I can sell bait to the sports leaving the docks in the mornings. I think I would be doing this just for something to do because I can not see making enough money to pay the bills from it.
My hope is this long rest that I have had will do my back and hand some good and I will not hurt so much. I do not want to give up fishing, it has always been in my heart to fish since I was a little girl. People used to say, how can she sit there all day fishing. I had what I called my rock at the inlet, it had an indent on top of it just big enough for my rear to fit, this was my favorite place to fish.
