KINDA PREGNANT // SUCH A CHAOTIC PLOT

Let me start by saying if this Hollywood comedy streaming on Netflix was a British film, its title would have probably been “Pregnant-ish." Lmao!

Okay! That’s me just trying to create some humor out of a movie that should have been a comedy but lost its appeal almost throughout, thereby leaving a viewer like me with awkwardness whilst watching.

This was cringey. It was weird in more ways than I can describe. I feel for the school-aged children that were used to film this cause the use of foul languages was just too extreme; film or not! The world is gradually losing it

Someone might argue that it could form part of sex education for when the word “threesome” is carelessly thrown at a class of teenagers…for me, not in the manner this was done in this movie. It was traumatic to watch and talk more about the kids that were actually in it.

We know how inquisitive kids can get, right! If indeed there are teachers like Lainy Newton (Amy Schumer) in our schools, it’s actually worrysome, to say the least. Let’s not even talk about the character of the guidance counselor seen vaping in the school premises & hallway in almost all her scenes.

I really wanted to have a good laugh before clicking to watch this. I’m however disappointed. Now, I want to watch something so bad to erase the memories from the experience this movie gave me.

My overall score is for the casting, to be honest. This had potential to have a feel-good effect, but naah! It didn’t do it for me. It was meant to be a romcom. There was, however, no on-screen chemistry between the lovers. It was bland

A LITTLE PLOT SUMMARY : Spoilers

Lainy (Amy Schumer) and Kate (Jillian Bell) grew up as friends playing pretend pregnant mothers in labor for the most parts of their childhood.

Many years later, Kate actually becomes pregnant, leaving Lainy feeling pressured. Lainy accidentally fakes a baby bump at a mother & baby store and decides to roll with it unbeknownst to Kate.

This then spirals into a web of lies for Lainy, especially when she finally meets with the love of her life, Josh (Will Forte) after a heartbreak.

    Back to ranting...

Truthfully, the storyline was good, but the plot was chaotic, traumatic, and hectic to watch. The ending was the last straw! 1hour 40minutes of irredeemable time spent on this, but that was me believing it would get better. It never did!

This is forced comedy at best; trying so hard to be funny but annoyingly wasn’t. The character of Kate just seemed clueless & distant for the most parts. How about the role of Shirley (played by Lizze Broadway)? She was just all over the place

Should we talk about the garage sex scene??? Those poor kids didn’t need to see that. Good thing she had her clothes on, but that was absolutely unnecessary.

The only character that pulled it off as far as I’m concerned was Megan Taylor (portrayed by Briane Howey). She was sweet, relatable, convincing, compelling, calm, irritated, yet lovely. She reminds me so much of Anne Hathaway.

In all honesty, whatever you do, please DO NOT watch this with kids if you decide to give this a try.
