The sky over Madrid was cloudy and grey.
The sun did not appear for a couple of days and wherever we went, we were followed by clouds and gloomy November rain.

Everything around us was wet. The leaves on the trees turned yellow and started to fall from the branches.

Looking for the shortest way from the Atocha train station to the Prado Museum, we saw a fence and a gate to enter the park. It's already late autumn, it's cold and wet...
We wonder if it's a wise decision for us to go to the park and walk through the gardens, which at the moment don't have what makes them recognizable, their beauty, their colours and smells...?

We have time until the appointment for the museum tour, so we decide to walk through the park. Although it is autumn and nature is slowly expecting winter, everything in the park is full of life.

On the small lake next to the Palacio de Cristal, ducks happily walk and swim in the lake.
In a small artificial cave, over which waterfalls flow, it is ideal to take a few photos.
We could only imagine what it would be like to sit on these steps in the spring or summer when everything is green around the lake...
It remains to plan the next visit to this park when the days are sunny and warm.

Given the surprise of the beauty of the park and in autumn, when we come across the entrance to La Roselada part of the park (the famous Cecilio Rodriguez) with roses, we decide to take a peek.

The fountains are still not extinguished and a rose can be found on some branches. Some of them have blossomed, while some are just young buds...

From the rose garden, we enter the Cecilio Rodriguez garden, a garden with a beautiful garden and peacocks.

The peacocks, these beautiful birds, were not in the mood to show us their gorgeous feathers this time, but they were in the mood to take pictures.

Honestly, I'm a little afraid of them, so I didn't dare to get close to them, especially since they had cubs.

The beautifully decorated and trimmed garden was the place where we took a short break from walking and enjoyed the sounds of the peaceful garden, sitting on one of the many benches.

We leave the garden and reach the Great Lake of Retiro Park. There are a lot of ducks in the lake, but no boats, which are probably the main attraction of this lake.

We go along the edge of the lake and watch the ducks play in the lake until we reach the new fountain, Fuente del Pequeno Triton, and in the background, we see the beautiful Church of Saint Manuel and Saint Benedict. The dome of the cathedral reminded me of the dome of the Budapest parliament...

Since it's almost time to tour the Prado Museum, we're skipping the Paseo de México tour and through the Partere garden, with its beautiful treetops and the monument statue of Jacinto Benavente (playwright, Nobel laureate), we leave the park at a beautiful gate and head towards the Prado Museum, our destination that afternoon.

Considering the time of year when we visited Madrid, staying in Retiro Park brought us an unexpectedly good time and enjoying what we saw, as well as the peace we heard in the centre of Madrid.
