Miyakoh Botanic Garden Aoshima, Miyazaki, Japan.

Not the biggest or best but visiting a City’s botanical gardens is always a good way to experience a new place. We had some light rain on the way to Miyakoh Botanic Garden in the city of Mizazaki on the island of Kyushu, Japan but it did not spoil the experience. The rain seemed to enhance and bring the plants to life. The threat of rain also meant we pretty had to place to ourselves.

This place is in the southern part of Japan and is almost subtropical which it definitely felt like, as it was so close to the beach. Only a 30 minute drive from the centre of the Miyazaki city centre meant it is a great day trip or you can even link it up with other popular tourist spots close by.

As soon as I can retire I might have a go at growing some of these back home. South East Queensland in Australia has a similar sub tropical climate.

There is a friendship and sister relationship with the Singapore Botanic Garden. A replica miniature Merlion sat in the glass house as a symbol of the bond.

I love the air plants that just seem to grow out of nothing.

The Botanical Gardens went all the way to a coastal path which led to a Bridge that went out to Island of Aoshima but that was another post.
