Hebrews 6:9-12

🖊️ COMMENTARY

Steel is said to be an alloy of iron and carbon. This alloy is called steel because it is meant to be firm or to be "standing fast," speaking of its capacity to withstand pressure. The Psalmist would go on to allude to the fact that it is only by God's discipline that he could break a bow of steel- Ps. 18:34. Because of its high resilience and endurance, It is used in building construction, major appliances, the inside and outside body of automobiles, trains and ships. This makes it a highly valuable material.

One can, therefore conclude that the biblical heroes of faith were men
and women with steel personalities, and they call us from the heights they have won. What they had achieved, we too can, but by the same patience required for faith's work to be perfected.

An old village blacksmith once said that in order to strengthen a piece of steel, you must temper it. You first heat it red hot, then hammer it to shape, and then quickly plunge it into a bucket of cold water. This procedure is repeated severally until the final product is achieved. If it fails the test after two attempts, it is cast aside as reprobate silver-Jer. 6:30.

In the same manner, the Lord tests His servants through fire, water, and heavy blows of His hammer. If l am unwilling to with stand the test, or prove to be unfit for His tempering process, I may end up on His scrap heap.
