On Saturday morning I finally went out at 7:15AM to get the truck and start cleaning out the trash shed. When I got up to the barn, there were 10 deer in the back 40. They stood and watched me get out of the car and into the truck. Then they watched me sit there trying to turn the key in the ignition. It had all but frozen up, probably from sitting so long.
Once I finally got it to turn, the cable for the choke was stuck open. Sigh… But I finally made it to the house and got started. I’d taken the trash a couple times since November or so, but hadn’t been able to do the recycling. By the time the shed was empty it was sprinkling and the truck was piled high.
My brother had come out and started breaking down boxes and he drove us to the dump. We finished right around 9AM and I was wiped out. My brother said he’d lube the ignition and choke for me and he got both moving freely.
On the way into the house I saw the first daffodil opening the first leaf in the East of Steps garden.
Over in the South garden 2 more buds were swollen, ready to open. I didn’t get anything else done on Saturday, I’d gotten too worn out and my left heel hurt too much for standing/walking. It rained off and on all day.
Sunday morning I got my post up and tended the seedlings. All the onions have gotten tall enough; I had to move them to higher lights. So the dining room has only onions for a couple days.
And 2 of the trays went to the back porch for a higher light. The back porch is nearly full. I watered all the seedlings and got a shower before my #2 intern arrived just after 9AM.
She had a sink full to wash up, 13 trays, 13 covers and all the bird feeding paraphernalia. She finished just after 11AM and headed home for pancakes with the new syrup her dad had made.
I had gotten the laundry started and managed to get it all washed and dried. I’d also sorted out the markers for the seedlings, so those are ready to use. But I couldn’t stand/walk long enough to clean the kitchen. I watched videos all afternoon. It rained off and on all day, and I kept the stove going.
On Monday it’s the 3rd seed starting so I have to get an early start to be ready when my #1 intern arrives to start that at 9AM. I need to finish by 12:30PM because I have an event at the Senior Center at 1PM, Maple Sugaring Through History. It’s to be cloudy and rainy all day.
