The Last Tower - watercolours on paper

Hello everyone Hivers and welcome back to my blog. Today I am sharing my latest watercolour painting that is meant to be a visual testimony of an ancient work of man, a medieval tower by the sea.

The tower dates back to the 1500s and ten years ago the Italian Superintendency of Fine Arts had begun an architectural and structural restoration but never completed. (we are in Italy unfortunately).

However, I love this tower and the site on which it was built is among the most beautiful in the Tyrrhenian Sea. In future posts I will show you photographs of the place and also of the inside of the tower that I had the privilege of visiting inside.

I drew the tower live and then completed it in my art studio. As is customary in the watercolour technique, I coloured the backgrounds, the sky, the base of the tower and the rocks with some vegetation.

Then I darkened the sky, overlaying Payne's grey and cerulean blue.

Finally I gave strength to the shadows and rocks in the landscape.

L'ultima torre - acquarelli su carta

Ciao a tutti cari amici Hivers e bentornati sul mio blog. Oggi condivido il mio ultimo dipinto ad acquarello che vuole essere da testimonianza visiva di un'antica opera dell'uomo, una torre medievale sul mare. La torre risale al 1500 e dieci anni fa la sovrintendenza alla Belle Arti italiane aveva iniziato un restauro architettonico e strutturale ma mai portato a termine. (siamo in Italia purtroppo). Comunque io adoro questa torre ed il sito su cui è stata costruita è tra i più belli del mar Tirreno. Nei prossimi post vi farò vedere le fotografie del posto ed anche dell'interno della torre che ho avuto il privilegio di visitare dentro. Ho disegnato la torre dal vivo e poi l'ho completata nel mio studio d'arte. Come si usa nella tecnica dell'acquarello ho colorato gli sfondi, il cielo, le basi della torre e delle rocce con qualche vegetazione. Poi ho scurito il cielo, sovrapponendo grigio di Payne e blu ceruleo. Infine ho dato forza alle ombreggiature e alle rocce del paesaggio.
