Have a Wonderful Day, Dear Friends!
Today, I’m excited to share with you the steps to prepare a delicious and nutritious Gova Malluma (Cabbage Stir-Fry). While cabbage is commonly used in many recipes, today I’ve prepared it as a flavorful stir-fry, locally known as malluma. In Sri Lanka, malluma is a signature dish often found in restaurants and cherished as a traditional culinary delight. Let’s explore the steps to make this exquisite cabbage stir-fry!

Method of making....
Let’s get ready to prepare this delicious dish! First, take the fresh and cleaned gova (cabbage) leaves and slice them thinly, as shown in the images below.
Next, take a mortar and pestle and add the following ingredients: one onion, garlic, cinnamon, curry leaves, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, salt, and pepper. Pound them well until everything is finely mixed and forms a paste.
Next, add the freshly grated coconut to the mixture in the mortar and pestle. Pound everything together thoroughly until the coconut blends well with the spices, creating a cohesive and aromatic mixture.
Next, take a pan and place it on the stove. Add about a tablespoon of coconut oil and heat it until the oil is warm. Once the oil is hot, add the finely chopped cabbage (gova) pieces into the pan. Stir the cabbage well to ensure it is evenly coated with the oil, allowing it to begin softening slightly.
Next, add the prepared coconut and spice mixture to the sautéed cabbage in the pan. Mix everything thoroughly, ensuring the cabbage is well coated with the rich coconut blend. Stir continuously and cook for about 3 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse and the cabbage to cook to the desired tenderness.
Finally, remove the pan from the heat, and your aromatic and flavorful Gova Malluma is ready to serve! This delicious dish pairs perfectly with rice or flatbreads like roti. I hope you’ll give this recipe a try and enjoy its wholesome goodness.
That’s all for today—wishing you a wonderful day! See you soon with another exciting recipe.
