Spiked tire, another visit to the mechanic (English/Spanish)

A loving greeting to all my Hive friends. It gives me great pleasure to share with you once again in the Hive Motors community. This time I come to share with you another experience with my Owen motorcycle from Empire keeway. As I have given in other posts I have had this bike since December last year. With only six months of experience with the bike, this week I had my first flat tire and without a doubt it is something I have to tell you about.

The night before my dear @aly.squid and I had traveled to the city, we returned very late and unfortunately it started raining on the way. The trip was long and cold but without any mishap. We arrived at our house being soaked and with our clothes on the verge of wringing out. We parked our bike, which was apparently perfect, and went to sleep. The next day when we were ready to leave for a work meeting I went to warm up the bike and to our surprise I found the tire spiked.

We thoroughly checked the tire and found a small nail, no doubt this was the vile culprit of our spiked tire. At first we were a little worried since there was no electric service (something very common in Venezuela) and they usually don't do anything to do with rubber when we are without power, since the air compressor needs it. Luckily everything is close by in our small community and we walked to our mechanic Carlos “El gato”. He explained to us that he did indeed need the power restored to put air in the tire. He told us that because of the size of the nail (which was really small) it wouldn't require more than changing the casing and that was it.

So we waited patiently for about 3 hours until the power was restored and the hardest part began. We loaded our pushed bike along 10 long streets, with the merciless sun at 3 pm. We sweated and rested several times, because despite rolling the bike is quite heavy. Clearly we could not ride it because our weight could damage the rubber. And because of our little e4xperience we didn't have the security to ride it without being mounted. So that was our only option.

When we arrived Gato met us and the first thing he did was to remove the rim with the tire, with the same long screw that holds the tire on the bike he held it on the ground.

We were nervous because everything that has to do with the mechanical part of our bike makes us very nervous. Then she put the whole piece on a table and with some levers she removed the tire from the rim. At one end he removed the affected casing and inserted the new one in the same way.

After setting everything up he put air in it and put it back on the bike. The whole thing took about 15 minutes and the cost was $4.00. We left there very happy and calm. Due to our inexperience we had thought that everything would be more difficult and expensive, but the truth was solved very quickly.

We didn't find it unusual for this to happen, as where we live there are many dirt and stone streets, where generally these types of tire hazards hide in any undetectable nook and cranny. I hope it doesn't happen so often because it still makes me nervous every time something happens to our bike.

Llanta espichada, otra visita al mecánico (Ingles/Español)

Un saludo amoroso para todos mis amigos de Hive. Me da mucho compartir con ustedes una vez más en la comunidad Hive Motors. En esta ocasión vengo a compartirles otra de las experiencias con mi motocicleta Owen de la Empire keeway. Como lo he dio en otros post tengo esta moto desde diciembre del año pasado. Con tan solo seis meses de experiencia con la moto, esta semana tuve mi primera llanta espichada y sin duda es algo que les tengo que contar.

La noche anterior mi querida @aly.squid y yo habíamos viajado a la ciudad, regresamos muy tarde y lamentablemente comenzó a llover durante el camino. El viaje fue largo y frio pero sin ningún percance. Llegamos a nuestra casa estando empapadas y con la ropa a punto de exprimir. Estacionamos nuestra moto que estaba aparentemente perfecta y nos dispusimos a dormir. Al día siguiente cuando ya estábamos listas para salir a una reunión de trabajo fui a calentar la moto y para nuestra sorpresa encontré la llanta espichada.

Revisamos minuciosamente la llanta y encontramos un pequeño clavo, sin duda este fue el vil responsable de nuestra llanta espichada. Al principio nos preocupamos un poco ya que no había servicio eléctrico (algo muy común en Venezuela) y generalmente no hacen nada que tenga que ver con caucho cuando estamos sin energía, puesto que el compresor del aire la amerita. Por suerte todo es cerca en nuestra pequeña comunidad y nos fuimos caminando hasta donde nuestro mecánico Carlos “El gato”. Este nos explicó que efectivamente necesitaba que reestablecieran el servicio eléctrico para ponerle aire a la llanta. Nos dijo que por el tamaño del clavo (que era realmente pequeño) no ameritaría más que cambiar la tripa y listo.

Así que esperamos pacientemente unas 3 horas hasta que se restableció la electricidad y comenzó la parte más difícil. Cargamos nuestra moto empujada a lo largo de 10 calle largas, con el sol despiadado de las 3 de la tarde. Sudamos y descansamos varias veces, pues a pesar de ir rodando la moto es bastante pesada. Claramente no lo podíamos montar porque nuestro peso podría dañar el caucho. Y por nuestra poca e4xperiencia tampoco tuvimos la seguridad de andarla sin estar montadas. Así que esa fue nuestra única opción.

Cuando llegamos Gato nos recibió y lo primero que hizo fue retirar el rin con la llanta, con el mismo tornillo largo que sostiene la llanta en la moto la sostuvo sobre el suelo.

Nosotras nerviosas porque todo lo que tiene que ver con la parte mecánica de nuestra moto nos pone muy nerviosas. Después puso toda la pieza sobre un mesón y con unas palancas saco la llanta del rin. Por uno de los extremos retiro la tripa afectada y de la misma forma introdujo la nueva.

Después de acomodar todo le puso aire y volvió a colocarla en la moto. Todo dardo unos 15 minutos y el costo fue de 4$. Salimos de allí muy contentas y tranquilas. Por la inexperiencia habíamos pesado que todo sería más difícil y costoso, pero la verdad se solucionó muy rápido.

No se nos hizo raro que esto pasara, ya que donde vivimos hay muchas calles de tierra y piedra, donde generalmente este tipo de peligros para las llantas se esconden en cualquier rincón indetectable. Espero no pase tan seguido porque sigue poniéndome nerviosa cada vez que algo le ocurre a nuestra moto.
