Mammography Examination
I had a mammography examination yesterday. It was postponed for nearly more than half of the year. It was supposed to happen last early summer. They phoned me to postpone it due to the machine's brokenness. There were many people in line, so even after repairing the machine, they needed to organize many appointments before mine.
Anyway, I finally went to the hospital for a check-up. I don't like going to the hospital, but I often have to for medical reasons. Since COVID-19 changes, this hospital has become completely booked, so I don't need to wait in the waiting room as much. Before, I used to wait at the reception for a long time, and then in the waiting room for a specific section. I usually get exhausted after visiting the hospital.
However, I don't need to wait as much anymore. The same goes for the blood work section, surgery, and more, except for the ER. The emergency building is always packed. When I really needed to visit the ER last year, I waited to see the doctor for around 6 hours. We have issues with a shortage of doctors. Many people can't find a family doctor.
When we came to Canada, we couldn't find our own family doctor for a few years. We needed to go to a walk-in clinic and wait for long hours to see random doctors. Fortunately, we bumped into one of the doctors at the other hospital when we were very sick a few years ago, and the doctor offered to become our family doctor. Finally, he could see us whenever we could book. The online booking system is also busy. If we want to meet our family doctor, we have to wait for a few weeks if we are lucky. My family doctor has thousands of patients. I appreciate his hard work. Sometimes he only does telephone meetings. I like his flexibility.
Back to the breast examination story, I don't like this exam... However, the technician was very professional and kind. She invited me to change into hospital clothes, which gave me a blue feeling. The hospital clothes remind me of a Japanese summer kimono called yukata, but not a happy feeling like it.
When I entered the changing room, I felt a bit nervous. I feel a bit tense with the hospital's quiet atmosphere. Canadian hospitals are very strict with incense or any kind of smell. I don't wear any perfume, so I didn't need to worry about it. Actually, I have an allergy to some detergents. I can't use detergents with a strong smell. The hospital clothes smelled strongly of laundry detergent. I almost sneezed.
There was some information about Breast Self-Examination (BSE) on the wall in the changing room. I always find it difficult to do self-checks. I don't exactly understand how to check by myself. It's good to pay attention, though.
The colour pink, often associated with breast cancer awareness, along with the diverse shapes of breasts in the design, can help create a more approachable and less intimidating atmosphere in the waiting room.
After the exam, the result will come by mail. Then, you will receive details of the exam. Also, you have to book for the next year in advance otherwise, you will have to wait for a long time again. It's always good to see Canadian flyers, posters, and products because they are in English and French as a bilingual style. I don't speak French, but it's fun to read in French like this. This is my mini-study material. I ask my husband because he speaks a little French when I can't pronounce some words. I didn't take this material because I didn't want to have paper at home.
Finally, I finished the exam safely. Hopefully, my result will be okay!

マンモグラフィー（乳房X線撮影）
昨日はマンモグラフィー（乳房X線撮影）の検査をしてきました。元々の予約である去年の夏以降、かれこれ半年以上も延期になっていました。検査の機械が故障したことによる延期でした。私の前から予約待ちをしている人が大勢いるので、たとえ機械が修理されたとしても待ち時間がかかるとのことでした。
やっと自分の検査日になりました。病院に行くのはあまり好きではありませんが、自分のコンディションのためには通わなければなりません。コロナ以降病院の予約スタイルが変更になったので、以前のように長い時間待たされることがなくなりました。以前は受付の段階からかなり待たされ、専門病棟の待合室でもかなりの時間待たされました。病院に行くとかなり疲労していました。
ところが、現在はそれほど待ち時間が長くありません。血液検査、手術なども同じく待ち時間が短くなりました。一方、救急病棟はいまだに混雑していて待ち時間が長いです。去年どうしても救急病院へ行かなければならなかった時は約６時間以上も待ちました。お医者さんが少ないのが問題です。たくさんの人がファミリードクターを見つけられずにいます。
カナダにやってきた時はしばらくファミリードクターが見つかりませんでした。担当のお医者さんではなくランダムで診察してもらえるウォークインクリニックに行かなければなりませんでした。幸運なことに、数年前に別の病院を訪れた際に何度かウォークインクリニックで診てもらった先生に偶然出会いました。先生がちょうど空きが出たのでファミリードクターになってあげると言ってくれました。ありがたいことにやっと診察を受けたい時に先生と予約を取ることができるようになりました。ただ、オンラインの予約システムは常に混雑しています。ファミリードクターに診察して欲しい時は、ラッキーであれば数週間待ちで予約が取れます。お医者さんは数千人の患者さんを抱えています。先生は本当に大変だと思います。時々、電話のみでの診察もしてくれて臨機応変に対応してくださいます。
乳がん検診の話に戻りますが、私は検査が苦手です。しかし、技師さんはとてもプロで親切な方でした。更衣室で病院着に着替えるよう促されました。病院着は浴衣を思い出しますが、楽しい浴衣という気分にはなれません。
更衣室に入ると少し緊張しました。病院の雰囲気を感じると少しナーバスになります。カナダの病院は香水などの匂いに関して制限が厳しいです。自分では香水などをつけないので心配はいりません。私は香料が入っている洗剤などにはアレルギーがあるので、強い匂いのするものは使えません。病院着から香ってくる洗剤の匂いは結構強くて、思わずくしゃみが出そうになりました。
胸部自己診断法のやり方が更衣室の壁に貼ってありました。自己診断はいつも難しいと感じます。いまいちどういうものが疑った方がいいものかがはっきりとわかりません。でも、常に気にしていくことが大切なのだと思います。
待合室にも乳がんに関するチラシが置いてあります。ピンク色とさまざまな形をした胸のイラストがデザインされたフライヤーは目を惹きます。乳がん情報に関して興味を持つようなデザインだと思います。
検査の結果は手紙でお知らせが来ます。その手紙に詳しい検査結果や詳細が書かれています。その手紙が来たのを目安にまた来年のマンモグラフィー検査の予約を取るといいそうです。また待ち時間が長いので早めに予約を入れておく方が良いとのことです。カナダのチラシやポスター、商品などは常に英語とフランス語の二か国語で記載してあるので楽しいです。私はフランス語を話しませんが、読むのが好きです。ミニ勉強道具のようになります。発音がわからない時は主人が少しフランス語を話せるので教えてもらいます。紙ベースのものは家が紙だらけになるのが嫌なのでもらってこないようにしています。
とにかく無事に検査が終了しました。検査結果が良ければいいのですが！
