Greetings friends, the other day I was seeing some sunflower plants around the city and I was a little amazed by how beautiful and big they were, I had never seen sunflowers so big, so I thought it was a good idea to make a keychain.

Saludos amigos, el otro día estuve viendo por aquí por la ciudad unas plantas de girasol y me quedé un poco maravillado por lo bonitas y grandes que eran, nunca había visto girasoles tan grandes, así que me pareció una buena idea hacer un llaverito.

Step by step

As I always use to do with this kind of crafts, I used flexible dough for the piece, I also used some wire for what would be the support.

I also used tools like a cutter, pliers and tweezers for the wire. I also used brushes and paints.

Paso a paso

Como siempre acostumbro a hacer con este tipo de manualidades, usé masa flexible para la pieza, además usé un poco de alambre para lo que sería el soporte.

Además para estos trabajos también usé herramientas como un cutter, alicate y pinzas para el alambre. Además usé pinceles y pinturas.

The sunflower is round, some types of sunflowers have large center and small petals, while others have large petals and small center.

The one I saw and was inspired by had a large center, so I made a thick sphere in flexible dough for this sunflower. If you look at the image, this circle has an indentation in the center, being a little higher at the edges.

El girasol es redondo, algunos tipos de girasoles tienen el centro grande y pétalos pequeños, mientras que otros tienen pétalos grandes y centro pequeño.

El que yo ví y en el que me inspiré tenía un centro grande, así que hice una esfera gruesa en masa flexible para este girasol. Si se fijan en la imagen, este círculo tiene una hendidura en el centro, siendo un poco más alto en los bordes.

The way sunflowers have the seeds in their center is by following a Fibonacci pattern or sequence. It is a very common way in nature to take advantage of space. However I did not follow this sequence so I simply tapped with a toothpick on the entire surface of the circle to give this relief that you can see in the image below.

La forma en que los girasoles tienen las semillas en su centro es siguiendo un patrón o secuencia de Fibonacci. Es una manera muy común en un la naturaleza para aprovechar el espacio. Sin embargo yo no seguí está secuencia así que simplemente di golpecitos con un palillo en toda la superficie del círculo para dar este relieve que pueden ver en la imagen de abajo.

The petals are an important part of the flowers, and sunflowers are no different. These I made in two layers, one at the front and one at the back.

As I said, the flower has a large center and small petals, so while the circle of flexible dough was still wet, I began to glue small petals around it, leaving a small space between each petal. In total I placed 10 petals on the front.

Los pétalos son parte importante de las flores, en los girasoles no es distinto. Estos los hice en dos capas, una adelante y una trasera.

Como dije, la flor es de centro grande y pétalos pequeños, así que mientras el círculo de masa flexible aún estaba húmedo, le comencé a pegar pequeños pétalos alrededor dejando un pequeño espacio entre cada pétalo. En total coloqué 10 pétalos en la parte delantera.

The space between the petals is to place more petals, some that go behind the ones I had already placed. It should be noted that to glue these petals, due to the type of material that is the flexible dough, I only had to use water so that all the sunflower peelings were glued.

El espacio entre los pétalos es para colocar más pétalos, unos que van detrás de los que ya había colocado. Cabe destacar que para pegar estos pétalos, por el tipo de material que es la masa flexible, solo tuve que usar agua para que se pegaron todos los pelados del girasol.

To cover the back a little bit, I made a sheet of flexible dough in a rounded shape, which I stretched with a wooden stick on the edges to create those irregular edges that can be seen.

Before gluing it to the back of the flower, using water, I made some lines in the center to create relief so that it could stick better to the flower.

Para cubrir un poco la parte trasera hice una lámina de masa flexible de forma redondeada, la cula fui estirando con un palillo de madera en los bordes para crear esos bordes irregulares que se observan.

Antes de pegarla en la parte trasera de la flor, usando agua, le hice algunas líneas en el centro para crear relieve y que este se pudiera pegar mejor a la flor.

I then attached a wire ring to it so that it could be attached to the chain of the keychain.

Luego le coloqué un alambre con argolla para que este se pudiera sostener a la cadena del llavero.

Finally came the part that I like about this type of work, because it is at this point where the piece begins to look good. Let me tell you about the painting process.

I painted the center in brown with black dyes, the petals in a characteristic yellow with yellow and orange.

Finalmente llegó la parte que me gusta de este tipo de trabajos, pues es en este punto donde la pieza comienza a verse bien. Les hablo del proceso de pintado.

El centro lo pinté de color marrón con tintes negros, los pétalos de un característico color amarillo con amarillo y naranja.

The back side I only used green, applying a few coats until it covered the paint well.

La parte trasera solo usé verde, aplicando unas cuantas capas hasta que cubrió bien la pintura.

After everything dried the piece was finished. Below you can see a series of pictures of the final result:
