Today's snack is Ah Balling Peanut Soup!

I was craving a snack earlier and decided to go for something traditional. I initially thought of getting Thai-style sweet potato balls, but then I remembered another delightful treat: peanut soup, or more commonly, Ah Balling peanut soup. It's a classic Teochew-style dish.

This is my second time enjoying this dish, and I’m still loving it. The first time, I ordered it with ginger soup, so this time, I decided to try it with peanut soup. The best thing about this dish is its mild sweetness. It tastes like a healthy option, making it perfect for someone who prefers less sugary food.

I ordered two types of balls: black sesame and yam. Between the two flavors, I prefer the sesame because it’s more flavorful, with a nutty and smoky taste that I really enjoy. The yam, on the other hand, tastes a bit bland and lacks the strong yam flavor I was expecting. However, I think this is because the yam used doesn’t contain artificial flavoring, which gives me the impression that the chef stays true to the principle of using natural ingredients. I really appreciate that about this food stall.

The food stall is located in Golden Mile Food Centre and is the only one that serves this kind of dish. They have many patrons who enjoy their offerings, including me. I’ll definitely be back to try the other flavors they have.

Overall, this dining experience was a delightful trip down memory lane, filled with comforting flavors and a touch of tradition. It's always refreshing to discover a food stall that values quality and natural ingredients, making each bite not just tasty but meaningful. If you’re ever at Golden Mile Food Centre, I highly recommend stopping by to try their unique offerings. Whether you’re craving something mildly sweet or just curious to explore Teochew-style snacks, this stall won’t disappoint. I’ll definitely be returning for more!
