Zoológico de Caricuao / Caricuao Zoo
El pasado sábado 15 de febrero, mi esposa y yo decidimos llevar a nuestro nieto Matteo al Parque Recreacional Zoológico Caricuao ubicado en Avenida Principal La Hacienda Caricuao, Caracas / Venezuela.
Last Saturday, February 15, my wife and I decided to take our grandson Matteo to the Caricuao Zoological Recreational Park located on Avenida Principal La Hacienda Caricuao, Caracas / Venezuela.
El Zoológico de Caricuao fue creado mediante decreto N° 1.682, de fecha 7 de marzo de 1974; pero abrió sus puertas al público el 31 de julio de 1977.
The Caricuao Zoo was created by decree No. 1,682, dated March 7, 1974; but opened its doors to the public on July 31, 1977.
Mi esposa y yo no habíamos regresado al Zoológico desde que trajimos a nuestros hijos hace más de 20 años. Ambos coincidimos que este lugar no se parece al que conocimos porque está bastante descuidado y no hay la cantidad de animales que había.
My wife and I had not been back to the Zoo since we brought our children there over 20 years ago. We both agree that this place is not like the one we knew because it is quite neglected and there are not as many animals as there used to be.
Debo confesar que mi esposa y yo preferimos que los animales estén libres, en su ambiente natural; sin embargo, el zoológico puede ser visto como un lugar pedagógico que sirve para la orientación de las personas que lo visitan y promover así su cuidado.
I must confess that my wife and I prefer animals to be free, in their natural environment; however, the zoo can be seen as an educational place that serves to guide people who visit it and thus promote their care.
Mi nieto Matteo disfrutó su paseo porque más que un zoológico, el lugar parece una granja de contacto y él pudo ver de cerca y hasta tocar a algunos ejemplares de la fauna que viven en cautiverio.
My grandson Matteo enjoyed his trip because the place looked more like a petting farm than a zoo, and he was able to see up close and even touch some of the animals that live in captivity.
El paseo fue tranquilo y reconfortante, hay seguridad y el personal es atento y servicial; sin embargo, creemos que pudo ser mejor si se invirtieran más recursos estatales en el mantenimiento de las 630 hectáreas que abarca el Zoológico de Caricuao y en la dotación de insumos, maquinaria y herramientas que necesitan los trabajadores para mantener el parque en óptimas condiciones.
The walk was calm and comforting, there is security and the staff is attentive and helpful; however, we believe that it could have been better if more state resources were invested in the maintenance of the 630 hectares that the Caricuao Zoo covers and in the provision of supplies, machinery and tools that the workers need to keep the park in optimal conditions.
Es bueno recordar que el área geográfica dónde se construyó el Zoológico pertenecía a la Hacienda cafetalera Santa Cruz; terrenos que fueron transferido por gobierno del entonces Presidente de la República, Doctor Raúl Leoni, a la antigua Gobernación del Distrito Federal.
It is worth remembering that the geographic area where the Zoo was built belonged to the Santa Cruz Coffee Estate; lands that were transferred by the government of the then President of the Republic, Dr. Raúl Leoni, to the former Government of the Federal District.
Antes de finalizar les informo que las visitas al Parque Recreacional Zoológico Caricuao se hacen de acuerdo con el siguiente horario: Martes a Viernes de 9:00 am 3:00 pm / Sábados, Domingo y días feriados 9:00 am a 4:00 pm.
Before finishing, I inform you that visits to the Caricuao Zoological Recreational Park are made according to the following schedule: Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm / Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
