Splinterlands - Too Pricey to Play, for Me!

in voilk •  3 months ago

So I thought I'd have a dip back into playing Splinterlands again, just for a season.

It's worth having a look every now and then and I wanted to try out Modern League now without the untamed cards...

And also with the recent changes - such as the end of tiers meaning one can play maxed level cards at maxed level all the way down in Bronze!

My experience thus far this last week has been one of bullying my way up with a maxed deck of chaos and half maxed deck of Rift Watchers, I have almost no Rebellion cards, but as a result of playing I am now a little bit more familiar with them and I've decided what I'd like roughly in this order...

    Moxian Rebel

I like weapons training - and this is a neutral card, I can imagine combining this with Bajikera or Riftwing and whatever other no attack cards there are.....

However it's $60 to take it up to L4 where it gets camo, so over $100 to get it up to 2 magic damage, on a par with my older cards...

    Seveyar...

Another neutral and what a perfect match for the weapons training card - only L3 to get it protect, repair and cleanse, three very useful buffs.... oh and blind, not too fussed about amplify either.

    Water Splinter: Deadblast

Again weapons training, I like! And swiften, triage and dodge, all great, but $200 for a max, yowser!

    I occasionally play fire

And this thing is a BEAST - 5 opportunity damage for the same mana, this would be fun to play!

    But damn those price tags....

I think I'd also need an Avina of the Wolfe Life summoner, I like the speed or heal buffs, so that's at least $200

And then with all of these 'better' (IMO) cards one is looking at $1000 to be able to supplement one's Chaos and Rift deck.

The problem... I wasn't prepared to pay the approx $6K you needed in packs to get maxi decks a few months ago, I'm still not prepared to pay $1000 now to get the select best cards to play.

I could probably amass a couple hundred dollars by selling off odds and sods not on land, but that wouldn't even touch what I feel I'd need to be properly competitive with some of these more expensive more recent cards.

It's just not worth it for me, I don't play enough.

And these are limited time cards anyway...!

And then that's another rub... even if I did spend $1000, I could obvs spend more, to max out my fun, there's just gonna be another bunch coming along in a year or so.

So I'm happy to be able to play with what I've got but at these prices I'm not Vesting, it ain't worth it!

    Patience...?

Yes I think so, I'll play out this season, then just go back to renting what I've got and maybe return in a few months, the prices would have come down, probably.

But I don't know if I'd buy even then... I'd want to be paying a few hundred rather than a couple of thousand for a proper in-point.

    It's tricky!
