Happy Sunday! No weekly dose of One Piece episode this week since release date is delayed :'). Anyways, there may be no episode for me, but the fire of amazement from last week's episode is still burning inside me. So, I made this fan art which was created and finished yesterday :>.(So proud of myself lol)
Illustration Process
Sketch
Luffy is a free character, so the pose that comes to mind when I imagine him is him in the sky in a falling, laid-down position, feeling the freedom.
Line art
Unlike the sketch part, where I only draw the general idea of my illustration, I had a bit of a hard time doing the line art since I can't find any references for the pose that I had in mind. It was challenging but fun since I get to draw what I want.
Coloring
For the base coloring, I had to hide the paper layer so I can see if I colored the white parts correctly. I was filled with excitement putting colors into my illustration because I really wanted to draw Luffy when his Gear 5 was first aired.
Then I put some shading next. I also added his hat (which was actually added after I almost finished the art). I did not add lightings since I have other plans for it later.
Background
For the background, the settings was the Egghead island. I used a dark green color and formed the bouncy ground. I also used yellow for the linings. Then some blue and orange/yellow shades for the sky and using blur tool to blend it.
Then I selected a bluish green color to overlay the character for blending into the background. After that I just used eraser to erase part of the lighting.
Effects
To finish the illustration, I mostly used soft air brush for the glow parts. I also used the sparkle pen tool to represent his beat in which the layer is set to Add(Glow). For the haki, I used a lightning pen with a maroon color. I duplicated the haki layer, changed its color to a lighter red, and applied Gaussian Blur.
