Laws according to literal meaning are binding rules, regulations, customs, and standards established within a community. Laws create order in any given society, even among animals that we think have no understanding of what they do have some laws that bind them, that if broken would attract consequences.

Where there's no law, things would be done disorderly and haphazardly, which could lead to chaos, disagreements, and even violence, hence the need for a proper way of conduct within our societies.

Most of these laws might not be written down like the constitution, but they are decisions established within the community that are understood by the inhabitants of that locality.

For instance where I previously lived, there was a understanding that for you to build a house within that vicinity, you must pay a certain amount of money to the somewhat ruler of the community, before you can be given permission to begin your building project.

This decision isn't written down anywhere, but it is a common practice within the community. Although I don't see the relevance, but it is something that is being done.

Some Rules/Laws that Exist in My Estate/Neighborhood

Commercial Tricycles or Bikes are not allowed within the Estate

This is a very strict rule within my estate, and it is being upheld by the security personnel at the gate. I recently just moved into the estate, so I wasn't really aware of this particular rule, so there was this day I had to go pick up my rice and some other items that were distributed in my workplace during the Christmas break, so it was a lot to carry. I had to charter a tricycle, as it is the most common means of transportation within the area, when I got to the gate and asked for access, they refused saying they don't let commercial tricycles within the estate, I was so confused about what to as there was no way I could carry all of the stuff down to my house. However I discovered that they had some tricycles that ran within the estate, according to them, this enabled them to know what goes on within the estate.

    Refuse aren't Dumped Indiscriminately

Within my neighborhood, you don't just throw your trash anywhere, there's a collection point where you have to drop it off, and it must be properly bagged if not it might not be picked up, and also there's a schedule that must be followed for the dropping off at the collection site. This has really helped in the control of indiscriminate dumping of refuse within the neighborhood, and also littering, so this is a very good rule that has been of immense help to us.

    Pet Ownership

Within the estate, you're not restricted from having a pet, but it must not cause a nuisance to your neighbors or any other person within the estate, so you're to take care of it, and not allow them to wander about unattended to within the estate. I think this is a really good rule, especially for some of you who have a phobia for animals, at least with this rule intact, if you must walk your pet outside your apartment, you must find a way to keep them under check.
