Continuing with the "Monthly Quest by The Anime Realm", it is time to review an anime based on a genre which is the one that creates the least attraction for me, I mean romance and that is why it took me some time to look for which anime in its series format I had seen to cover this phase of the tests of this month of February about to end and I remembered a short anime that was released 22 years ago, a story of love, drama, war and science fiction, I mean "Saikano".

Siguiendo con el "Monthly Quest by The Anime Realm", es momento de hacer reseña de un anime basado en un género el cual es el que menos atracción me crea, me refiero al del romance y es por eso que me tomó cierto tiempo de buscar cuál anime en su formato de serie había visto para cubrir esta fase de las pruebas de este mes de febrero próximo a terminar y recordé un corto anime que fue estrenado hace 22 años, una historia de amor, drama, guerra y ciencia-ficción, me refiero a "Saikano".
Saikano or as it is originally called "Saishū Heiki Kanojo", is an anime of only thirteen episodes and two ovas; it tells the story of the romance between "Chise" and "Shuji", both teenagers, high school students living in Hokkaidō, a coastal city in Japan; a simple story about two people with very different personalities and physiques and that for whatever reason will have a tumultuous or chaotic relationship for different factors of which is, the aforementioned way of being so different from each other, old relationships, fear of commitment and one very important, the development of World War III, which will reveal that the sweet, clumsy, innocent and small Chise, is also known as "The Ultimate Weapon" that will face any enemy to save and make Japan winner; all these characteristics will make us see an intense story about a great love that will make us appreciate life even more.

Saikano o como originalmente se llama "Saishū Heiki Kanojo", es una anime de tan solo trece episodios y dos ovas; relata la historia del romance entre "Chise" y "Shuji", ambos adolescentes, estudiantes de bachillerato que viven en Hokkaidō, una ciudad costeña del Japón; una historia simple sobre dos personas con personalidades y físicos muy diferentes y que por la razón que sea tendrá una tumultuosa o caótica relación por diferentes factores de los cuales es, la ya citada manera tan diferente de ser de cada uno, relaciones antiguas, el temor al compromiso y uno muy importante, el desarrollo de La Tercera Guerra Mundial, la cual hará que se revele de que la dulce, torpe, inocente y pequeña Chise, también es conocida como "El Arma Definitiva" que hará frente a cualquier enemigo para salvar y hacer ganador al Japón; todas estas características nos harán ver una historia intensa sobre un gran amor que nos hará apreciar aún más la vida.
Even though it is based on the manga of the same name that aired between 1999 - 2001 and the anime was released in 2002; I was able to see this anime when I got to know about the live-action version which was released at the beginning of 2006; to be honest I didn't know that in Japan they made this kind of movies about anime and because of the brief images that I could see I felt emotion and I wanted to see this movie no matter that I hadn't read or seen the material from which it is based; the movie seemed normal to me, with not very good performances, but entertaining story although with a big problem and that is that I didn't know how to interpret the ending and that's exactly what made me watch this short anime.

A pesar de estar basado en el manga del mismo nombre que se emitió entre los años 1999 - 2001 y que el anime fue estrenado en el 2002; yo pude ver este anime cuando tuve noción de la versión live-action la cual fue estrenada a comienzos del 2006; para ser sincero no sabía que en Japón se realizaba películas de ese tipo sobre animes y por lo breve de las imágenes que pude ver sentí emoción y quería ver esa película sin importar que no hubiera leído o visto el material del cual está basada; la película me pareció normal, con no muy buenas actuaciones, pero entretenida historia aunque con un gran problema y es que no sabía como interpretar el final y justamente eso fue lo que me impulsó a ver este corto anime.
The animation is something very different from what I had seen, the design of the characters seemed to me adequate to be a romance story, I think that is what first caught the attention of those who appreciate this type of stories and the round faces, the use of short hair of the female characters, the use of pastel colors, in the clothes and in the places where this story takes place makes it look quite fresh and calm, I think that helps to cope with a story with so much drama; that is precisely one of the elements in this production that caught my attention and that is that in such a short story, we will see how certain stories give us the notion of what has happened with "Chise" and we go deeper with what happens to "Shuji" who is the one who tells this romance that happens in times of war and that's great because the attitude and image of this character is not the one who gives signs of being who should tell the love story and it's a great decision because of the unusual, I think you have the perfect character who lives through disappointments and possibly before what could be the end of the world will get true love.

La animación es algo muy diferente a lo que había visto, el diseño de los personajes me pareció adecuado para ser una historia de romance, creo que eso es lo que primeramente captó la atención de quien aprecian mucho más este tipo de historias y es que los rostros redondos, el uso del cabello corto de los personajes femeninos, el uso de colores pasteles, en la vestimenta y en los lugares donde ocurren está historia hace ver bastante fresco y tranquilo, creo que eso ayuda a sobrellevar una historia con tanto drama; justamente eso es de los elementos en esta producción que me llamó la atención y es que en una historia tan corta, veremos cómo ciertos relatos nos da la noción de que ha sucedido con "Chise" y profundizamos más con lo que sucede a "Shuji" quien es el que relata este romance que suceden en tiempos de guerra y eso es genial porque la actitud y la imagen de este personaje no es el que da señales de ser quien deba relatar la historia de amor y es una gran decisión porque de lo poco habitual, creo que se tiene el personaje perfecto que vive decepciones y posiblemente antes de lo que puede ser el final del mundo consiga el verdadero amor.
Saikano is great, surely there will be those who may think it is very tragic, but it has that element of the genre "Coming of Age" that I like, I mean breaking barriers to express a feeling that had been lost, that is due to the well written story Shuji, who is the character that I liked the most; there is another feature that I liked and it is about the short duration, the thirteen episodes force it to be so direct and I think that is what motivates it to be so tragic, which is understandable because we must remember that this romance takes place in the fictional third world war, but that does not prevent it from having some reality or criticism because this anime shows how the normal life of a group of teenagers is truncated by an unexpected war. Surely there will be those who point out that there are better anime that use these same themes and they may be right, at no time have I said that "Saikano" is the best or one of the best, but for someone who is not a fan of the romance genre in an anime, I think this story does very well in telling a story where the influence of love may or may not save the world.

Saikano es genial, seguramente habra quien puede pensar que es muy trágica, pero tiene ese elemento del género "Coming of Age" que me agrada, me refiero a lo de romper barreras para expresar un sentimiento que se había perdido, eso es debido a lo bien escrito de la historia Shuji, que es el personaje que más me ha gustado; existe otra característica que me agradó y es sobre la corta duración, los trece episodios obligan a que sea tan directa y pienso que es lo que motiva que sea tan trágica, lo cual es entendible porque hay que recordar que este romance se desarrolla en la ficticia tercera guerra mundial, pero eso no evita que tenga cierta realidad o crítica porque este anime demuestra como la vida normal de un grupo de adolescentes es truncada por una inesperada guerra. Seguramente habrá quien señale que existen mejores animes que usen estos mismos temas y pueden estar en lo cierto, en ningún momento he dicho que "Saikano" sea el mejor o uno de los mejores, pero para alguien que no es fan del género del romance en un anime, creo que está historia cumple muy bien en relatar una historia en dónde la influencia del amor puede o no salvar al mundo.
