The other Old Airport road hawker center (Traditional Chinese cuisine)

in voilk •  last month

I went to the Old Airport Road (near Mountbatten station) hoping to dine at one of the famous hawker food centers in the city however, it was closed for renovation. I was disappointed in myself for not checking online about it. I didn't expect it to be closed for a month because it's the biggest and famous in the area. It serves a lot of customers daily because of the variety of food and also because of the good price of the food.

It's a good thing that there are food places around the area that also offer good quality food. What I realized is that the smaller food centers near the famous one are offering food at a cheaper price.

The hawker stall is located at:

17 Old Airport Rd, #4 Kallang Estate Hawker, Singapore 397972

The stall is run by a hardworking couple who are tirelessly cooking and assembling dozens of food in a bowl for steaming. They specialize in steamed food but they also offer dishes that are cooked in a Wok and other stir-fried stuff.

What I ordered for this dinner was the Pork Ribs with Pickled Vegetables with rice.

I can't the Chinese writing on the signboard but the photos are good enough for me to tell the food. I rarely eat pickled vegetables but I still like it. It's a good pairing to steamed fish at a Teochew-style restaurant.

The combination of my food and my drinks wasn't planned at all. A pickled vegetable is fermented and pairing it with fresh milk may not work for someone who has a sensitive digestive system. Surprisingly, it worked well with me. It improved my digestion which is a good discovery of myself.

What's surprising about this dish is the price. For S$3.50, this dish is super good and it's quite generous with pork ribs too. It was steamed well so that even the cartilage bones could be eaten too.

I'm coming back to this stall for this dish and probably check on the steamed fish too.

My journey to the world of food.
