The Day I Saw A Ghost

    Greetings!

If by any chance I could get the opportunity to travel back to relive memories, even though I can't change or correct anything, I would choose to relive the day I met a ghost.
I told my mom, my siblings, and many other people about it, but none of them believed me. At some point, I even started wondering if what I saw was really a ghost.

Here’s how it happened that day:

There was a man in the neighboring compound who died in an accident. He had a wife and three children who were all quite young. They weren't natives of the area, so we used to communicate in pidgin English. Two days after the man’s death, the family relocated to their home place for the burial. Within that week, on the Friday of it, I was coming back from school under the hot afternoon sun. We were trekking, and hunger was at its peak.

Then, I saw this man, Daddy Miracle, as we fondly called him, in a mechanic workshop, waiting for his bike to be fixed. Yes, he was standing, holding his motorcycle while talking with the mechanic, seemingly describing the issues with the bike. He was wearing blue jeans and the jacket that I often saw him in. In fact, that was his favorite outfit because he liked to show off his muscular arms through the sleeveless jeans jacket.

Upon seeing him, my eyes got fixed on him, and my brain was flooded with thoughts:

    "Is this not Daddy Miracle?"

"Is this a ghost or his twin brother?"

"Should I go and greet him, or possibly throw sand at him?"

All these thoughts ran through my mind in seconds while I kept walking, not letting the people I was with know what was happening. Oh, I guess that was a mistake because I believed they would have suggested we go and touch him to see if he'd disappear, or maybe throw sand at him. But then, I also thought of the possible mockery, so I decided to keep my thoughts to myself as we walked away from the scene.

To be very sincere, I was so sure that it was the dead man I saw, and the only reason it couldn't be him was if he had a twin, which I doubted because during their entire stay in the area, we never heard him mention anything about being a twin.

That day when I got home, I told my mom what I saw, and she laughed loudly because, according to her, I was hungry, and my eyes were playing tricks on me—just the way you, reading this piece, might assume as well.

Well, I would love to relive that day again, just to examine it closely to be sure it was the man I saw.

This contest specified that we can't change anything, but I really wish I could do one thing when reliving it, and that's to throw sand at the man to see if he'd vanish or still be there, which, according to Nollywood standards, is a more concrete way to confirm a ghost. Lol

    Thanks for reading.
