You were taught that if you cared for people, they wouldn't leave. That if you loved with all your being and gave without measure, they would stay with you.
But life doesn't work like that. Everything changes, moves and goes, even the things you love the most. It's not your fault; you didn't fail. It's life reminding you that nothing belongs to us.
Sometimes you think that feeling intensely should be enough to hold on to someone. However, love doesn't guarantee permanence, nor do hugs stop goodbyes.
You didn't come here to collect eternal moments, but to live, to really feel, to lose and move on, to be empty and fill up again.
The problem is not that everything is temporary, but that you find it hard to accept. You think that if someone leaves, it breaks you inside.
And yes, it hurts, but it doesn't turn you off. You are not here to control, but to learn to let go and honour what was.
Instead of wondering why life took away what you loved, ask yourself: What did I leave in the other? That is what really belongs to you: what you gave with your soul.
Your heart may not be whole, but it still beats, and every scar tells the story of someone who knew how to love. If it transformed you, it was worth it. Let go of the illusion; what you lived by his side is yours and is not lost.
