This new school year was more difficult for Angela because she had been promoted to a higher grade and her parents had moved to a different school district for work reasons. New friends, new buildings and above all, higher standards. This school was known for its great debate team. So grammar and pragmatics was something very important for all the teachers who worked there.
Grandma I don't know if I'm going to be able to perform at this school, everything is new to me, it would be a dream come true to get on the debate team or the spelling team, but I'm not very good, at my old school there was none of that... I think I'm not sure how to say it....
Daughter, the best way to get on any team is with the help of an old book: The dictionary, if you learn to use it you will see how your words flow and your sentences will be the perianth of your thoughts. How do you think we were able to master this language when we came to this country?
I don't know abue, that book annoys me, it has many letters and few images, do you think I can learn it all?
Here is a technique that I learned many years ago....
Every day pick a letter and just select 10 words, read and memorize them, and then randomly flip to another page and do the same thing, ten more words, and so on for a while until you get tired. .... Don't worry if someone watching you might think you're just flipping through the dictionary, the truth is that you're processing it little by little.
How well I'm doing, I think it will be fun....
Listen to wise grandma, it's better to learn a little bit at a time, than to try to learn the whole dictionary in one sitting.
What I see: A concentrated child, immersed in the wonderful world contained in the pages of a dictionary.
What I feel: A lot of memories, since I improved my lexicon and my writing skills when many years ago I dedicated myself to learn 10 words a day.
La técnica de la abuela para leer un diccionario
Este nuevo año escolar para Ángela se presentaba con un mayor grado de dificultad había sido promovida de grado escolar y además por razones laborales de sus padres había cambiado de distrito escolar.
Nuevos amigos, nuevas edificaciones y sobre todo mayores niveles de exigencias. Este colegio era conocido por su gran equipo de debate escolar. Así que la gramática y la pragmática era algo muy importante para todos los profesores que allí trabajaban.
-Abuela no sé si voy a poder rendir en esta escuela, todo es nuevo para mí, seria un sueño hecho realidad entrar en el equipo de debates o en el equipo de deletreo, pero no soy muy buena, en mi antigua escuela no había nada de eso.. creo que estoy no sé cómo decirlo….
-Hija, la mejor manera de lograr entrar en cualquier equipo es con la ayuda de un viejo libro: El diccionario, si lo aprendes a usar veras como fluyen tus palabras y tus oraciones serán el perianto de tus pensamientos. ¿Cómo crees que nosotros pudimos dominar este idioma cuando llegamos a este país?
-No se abue, ese libro me fastidia, tiene muchas letras y pocas imágenes, tu crees que pueda aprendérmelo todo…
-mira te voy a dar una técnica que yo aprendí hace muchos años atrás…
-Cada día escoge una letra y solo seleccionas 10 palabras, las lees y memorizas, y luego al azar hojeas otra página y haces lo mismo, diez palabras más, así durante un rato hasta que te canses…. No te preocupes si alguien que te observa pueda pensar que solo estas hojeando el diccionario, la verdad es que lo estas procesando poco a poco.
-Que bien lo voy hacer, creo que será divertido….
Hagan caso a la abuela sabia, es mejor aprender poquito cada ratico, que intentar aprenderse todo el diccionario en una sola sentada.

Que siento: Mucho recuerdos, ya que mejore mi léxico y mi capacidad de escritura cuando hace muchos años atrás me dedique aprender 10 palabras al día.
