To paraphrase Bill Murray in the film 'Groundhog Day'.....
"Well, it's Election Day... again."
Needless to say, it's one of my least favorite times of the year. What should be a celebration of our nation and the citizens' right to determine our own destiny has largely become a caricature of its intended meaning... a vote largely limited to two very lackluster choices that almost always end up serving as mere mouthpieces for special interests and extremely wealthy oligarchs. Yes there might be a lesser of two evils here, but I'm not interested in making that devil's bargain anymore. So like Cam, until this changes I will mock this presidential election ritual any chance I get. Some local elections might make some real local difference, but IMHO presidential elections are largely a clown-show. But hey, that doesn't mean I can't make a joke of it any chance I get!
Oh, and yes, right now I am actually watching the movies mentioned as I write this. And sure, having 'V for Vendetta' might sound a little weird at first, but if you think about it this election day DOES happen to coincide with the 5th of November this year. So even without the anti-authoritarian message, I think it fits nicely.
Heck, I might even add the film 'The Running Man' to the list tonight if I stay up late enough. Yeah it's not really themed on elections or presidents, but the media circus aspect of it seems appropriate enough! 😁
