HELLO HIVE
There are so many different crafts in Nigeria just as there are so many cultures and traditions; each culture comes with its own way of dressing, its own music 🎵, its own ways of dancing, and its own cuisine.
But the one I have been most exposed to is bead making and the beautiful energy that flows from the beads when it is properly designed by someone who has an inept idea on different cultures and traditions.
It is an essential part of the Nigerian culture that is deeply rooted in history and tradition; it plays a huge role in distinguishing one culture from the other and one status from the other as well as an artistic expression without the need for words.
There is this ancient feeling about beads because of the cultural backgrounds of the practice and how far it dates backwards in time, but now everyone is gradually embracing it and turning it into a thing of 😍 beauty.
Bead making is artistic in nature, so when you begin to make beads into different designs, you are gradually expressing your artistic skills.
The tender nature of making beads is the reason behind the rapid increase of kids making beautiful artistic designs from beads because it requires little to no heavy work but more of mental work that flows the moment you begin to grasp what you are doing.
Beads can be manipulated into different kinds of designs depending on our taste and the shapes and colors of beads available to us. There are times when my younger sister, who loves making beads, gets stranded while making a small, fitted hand bangle design for me because of some color or shape that could occur as a result of the availability of the color and shape they intended to use and the quantity they can purchase.
It could sometimes look like a 🧩 puzzle piece when you begin to struggle to find the best possible position to put a bead.
The demand for handmade beads has opened up a huge business opportunity for so many people, especially those who are making a lot of money from crafting these beads into something beautiful ❤️️. Brides of cultures make use of different bead designs for weddings, and it has also turned into a fashion trend today.
The culture from the first image is the Edo culture, and this picture was taken during our cultural carnival in the NYSC orientation camp. I had no idea what the Edo cultural attire would look like, but after seeing how beautiful the queen's attire was with the full display of beads, then I understood the more reason why beads have been around for that long without losing their hype.
