It is only through the infilling of the Holy Spirit that you can discern the plans of the devil around you and overcome it. God's desire is that the Holy Spirit abides in you forever. It is only when you are filled with the Holy Spirit that you can break every work of flesh ( sin ).
Romans 7:19-20 (KJV )
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Paul experienced that also, he said, the good that I want to do I do not but even the evil which I would not want to do, that I do. So the conclusion of Apostle Paul here now is, if i do that I would not, it is no more I that it but that sin dwelleth in me.
You cannot stop that bad thing you are doing. You do not have the power, the ability to do that, even the Apostle Paul is a testimony to that. In his former way of life, he was unable to stop the bad things that he does not want to do, but which he continue to do.
So you cannot stop that unless you chase away of sin in you. This was the experience of the Apostle Paul but later turned to be one of the best apostles.
