Proposing longer Christmas holidays

    Greetings everyone!

Throughout my employment history, I've only worked once in an organization that observes public holidays; the rest were private, and public holidays were never a concern for the companies. They didn't allow us to experience any holidays, which was understandable to us (the staff) because the companies dealt with essential services and needed continuity to survive.

During those days, the only ways for us to enjoy holidays were maybe when there was trouble in the town and a curfew was imposed. In fact, we prayed for this to occur often Lol😅

    Adding more days to holidays...

Talking about adding more days to holidays, I think the holiday at the end of the year, the Christmas season, should be extended or elongated to span up to three weeks because that's one major holiday that people unavoidably celebrate very highly.
Although the Christmas thing is for the Christian religion, the easiness vibes that come with it has turned it into a general form whereby even the non Christian religion always look forward to the season of the Holidays.

I know the number of such holidays of that season differ from one company to another. Some companies give just a week, while others give three weeks, and there are some too that give just three days, which makes me wonder a lot.
If you take a close look at Nigerian banks, they fall into this category of few days of holidays for this season.

I remember, in those days, the public firm I worked for usually gave us two weeks for the season, which started a few days before Christmas. Once the "Happy New Year" celebrations were over, say on the 3rd of January, all of us would resume work.
Meanwhile, this is the only major holiday that spans more than a week, which they could have at least made it a one-month thing because it's the only time we have to travel home and visit parents.

This is me saying that the end of the year's holiday, which is commonly known as Christmas holiday, should at least be a month long. It wouldn't hurt any company to close up and allow the staff to go and enjoy the holiday for a month.

I remember the time I was in school; we were never allowed to travel home on time for Christmas holidays. The lecturers were coming to lecture us even on the 23rd of December, which got us talking and calling names to those lecturers because it was obvious they were wicked or maybe didn't like the fun of spending time with their family at home. But we came to understand that actually, their holiday time for that season most times extended to the 23rd or 24th of December, and it's a government-owned higher institution.

This is to tell you that even government-owned companies that are supposed to be liberal in terms of relieving staff for holidays are among the sectors enforcing a cut-down in the supposed number of days for holiday.

In fact, if I had my way, I would make the whole of December plus the first week of January a public holiday.
    Yeah!
