Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
Splinterlands as a Auto- Battler card game is very rich in different strategies that each player can employ to help them win their battles but there is no single strategy that is unbeatable. There will always be counters that is available for each strategies and it will be up to the player to decide which is the most optimal strategy to use as well as to read what strategy what the opponent will use.
And so, for this week's Community Engagement Challenge, I'm gonna share to you one of my favorite strategy in the game which is to use Martyr cards in order to win my battles.
The Martyr Strategy
In order to win each of our battles, the requirement is that we defeat all of the units of the opponent and by having as many of our cards to survive as possible, we will be able to better secure our victory. So as much as possible, we want our cards to remain in play but by using the Martyr Strategy, we want certain monsters on our side to die as quickly as possible. This is because of its effects which gives +1 stat boost on all the stats of the units that were adjacent into it, making them more powerful and be able to inflict more damage.
Cards With Martyr Ability
Martyr was a new ability that was first introduced with the Chaos Legion Soulbound Rewards. What this ability does was to increase all the the stats of the adjacent units by +1. At the same time, multiple cards with the Martyr ability can be used in battle to help increase the stats of the same unit. We can also use Resurrect in order to trigger the ability multiple times though one weakness that this strategy have is that the stats increase that was received due to Martyr can be removed by using monsters with Cleanse. Currently, we have 6 cards with Martyr ability and they were:
Notable Rulesets Ability
Earthquake | Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round. |
---|---|
Noxious Fumes | All Monsters start the battle Poisoned. |
Target Practice | All Range and Magic attack Monsters have the Snipe ability. |
Equal Opportunity | All Monsters have the Opportunity ability. |
Again the idea with using Martyr cards is for them to die as quickly as possible in order to increase the stats on an adjacent unit and since many of the Martyr cards already have low life to begin with, this rulesets will make their death quicker.
Battle Showcase
Now that we have the necessary pieces for this strategy, let's now go with some battles to have you see this strategy in action.
Battle 1: Using Venari Marksrat and Noa the Just
On this battle, I have placed the Martyr cards Noa the Just in between Djinn Oshanus and Kulu Mastermind since it was a non- damage unit that I was able to give melee attack with Weapon's Training as well as Reach ability so that it can attack even at the second position and in case that it was defeated, it ca be used to increase the stats of both. At the same time, I also have Venari Marksrat which was in between Scavo Hireling and Arkemis the Bear to simply die from Return Fire or be the bait for Opportunity attacks and boost the stats of the two monsters.
Now notice how the stats of Scavo Hireling and Arkemis the Bear have increased with the defeat of Venari Marksrat.
At the end of the battle, Noah the Just was not able to die. However, the combination of the stats increase on Arkemis the Bear and Enrage has make the card with a total of 8 damage and 8 speed so by the start of round 6, it immediately melt all of the remaining health of Runemancer Kye to finish the battle.
Battle 2: Using Iziar
For this battle, I have Iziar to be in between Jared Scar and Time Mage in order to have their stats increased when it was defeated. And since Iziar also has the Taunt ability, I was able to force the opponent units to only attack this card, making it almost impossible for them not trigger its ability.
After a while, Iziar was finally defeated, boosting the stats of Time Mage and Jared Scar which on its own, also has the capability to make itself stronger with Bloodlust which enables it to increase all of its stats for each time it defeats an opponent.
And with round 5, Jared Scar ends the battle with a whooping 11 damage to Doctor Blight ending the battle in my victory. At the same time, Jared Scar gets another stat boost since it defeats a monster so it ends up with a total of 12 damage.
Closing
There is no such thing as a perfect strategy and there will always be counters into it. Before deciding whether using this strategy or not in the battle, always consider the available rulesets and manacaps as well as the previous battle history of your opponent then anticipate what will be their move to base what strategy will you use.
Thank you and see you on the next post!
