Larry begins his look at today in history from Poland. He finds out that on this day in 1940, the first convoy of Polish political prisoners arrived at Auschwitz, Nazi Germany's greatest concentration, extermination, and slave-labour camp, where over one million people perished.
From Poland, Larry goes to Argentina. He finds out that on this day in 1982, the surrender of the huge Argentine force at Port Stanley to the British military marked the conclusion of the Falkland Islands War, which was fought for control of the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) and their dependencies, a territory long disputed by the warring nations.
From Argentina, Larry goes to the world of space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 1963, the manned Soviet spacecraft Vostok 5 was launched, and two days later, Vostok 6 was propelled into orbit with astronaut Valentina V. Tereshkova, the first woman to travel in space.
From the world of space exploration, Larry goes to France. He finds out that on this day in 1940, German forces entered Paris, beginning a four-year occupation of the French city.
From France, Larry goes to Thailand. He finds out that on this day in 1777, the Continental Congress approved the Stars and Stripes as the first national flag of the United States of America.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1946, Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States (2017-21) and the expected Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election was born in New York, U.S.A.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
